🌟 NORTH STAR SCIENCE SCHOOL 2026 – VOLUNTEERS NEEDED! 🌟

North Star Science School is just around the corner, and this year is set to be our biggest event yet! 🚀

The event is organised by The Work-wise Foundation, a charity that relies on the incredible support of volunteers to help make our events possible.

We have an amazing team of volunteers who return year after year, but with North Star expanding, we'd love to welcome some new faces to the team! 💙

👩‍🔬 Secondary School Event – Year 8 & 9 students

Volunteers will help:
👥 Guide groups of students around the event
⏰ Keep groups to their workshop and theatre times
🌟 Help ensure the day runs smoothly for everyone

And don't worry... breakfast, lunch and refreshments will all be provided! 🥪☕

🏗️ Gleadless Valley Regeneration Scheme is returning to North Star Science School 2026!

At North Star 2025, students were introduced to the world of architecture and regeneration before getting creative and designing their own ideas for the future of Gleadless Valley.

The workshop encouraged students to think about how spaces and communities can be transformed, while giving them the opportunity to put their own ideas and creativity into action. 🏡💡

🖨️ AMRC & AMRC Training Centre are returning to North Star Science School 2026!

At North Star 2025, students stepped into the world of engineering and additive manufacturing, using their creativity to design a shape before bringing their ideas to life through 3D printing.

Whether working from a template or creating an idea of their own, students experienced the design process and discovered how additive manufacturing is being used in modern engineering. 💡

We can’t wait to see what AMRC and AMRC Training Centre bring to North Star Science School 2026! 🚀

🎈 Forged Solutions Group is returning to North Star Science School 2026!

At North Star 2025, Forged Solutions Group and Oasis Don Valley Academy teamed up to challenge students to build a balloon-powered car! 🚗🎈

The workshop gave students a fun, hands-on way to explore motion and Newton’s Laws of Motion, while putting their designs to the test.

A great example of how engineering and science can be brought to life through creativity, teamwork and a little bit of competition!

🔥 United Cast Bar is returning to North Star Science School 2026!

At North Star 2025, students got hands-on with casting and materials science!

Students created their own sand mould before pouring tin into the mould to produce a small casting they could take away as a keepsake. They also explored the microscopic structure of iron and used ultrasonic testing equipment to investigate internal defects.

A fantastic opportunity to see how science, engineering and manufacturing come together in the real world! 🔬⚙️

🌡️ LAND is returning to North Star Science School 2026!

At North Star 2025, LAND brought science to life with a hands-on chocolate and thermal imaging workshop! 🍫

Students explored how heat interacts with different materials, using thermal imaging technology to observe how infrared radiation is absorbed and reflected.

A tasty and colourful way to explore real-world science, combining curiosity, experimentation and technology! 🔬

🎬 Amazelab is returning to North Star Science School 2026!

At North Star 2025, Amazelab worked alongside Great Childhoods Ambition, Barnsley Civic, Pitstop Productions and three Barnsley secondary schools to deliver creative, student-led workshops designed by secondary students, for secondary students.

Students explored everything from sound and storytelling to theatre lighting and Foley, working with industry professionals to develop new skills and bring their creativity to life. 🎭🎧

It was an exciting opportunity for students to explore the creative industries and have their voices heard.

We can’t wait to see what Amazelab brings to North Star Science School 2026! 🌟

⚛️ UKAEA is returning to North Star Science School 2026!

At North Star 2025, students stepped into the world of fusion energy, working in teams to build their own Fusion Energy Campus.

They had to balance sustainable, carbon-free energy production with the environment, staff wellbeing, innovative technology and staying within budget! 🌍⚡

It was a fantastic hands-on challenge exploring the complex decisions involved in creating the energy systems of the future.
