Many workers have heard the term arc flash, but not everyone fully understands what it means or just how dangerous an arc flash can be.
An arc flash is not simply an electrical fault or minor shock.
It is an electrical explosion.
In a fraction of a second an electrical current leaves itโs intended path and travels through the air. The arc flash can reach temperatures hotter than the sun, with intense light and a pressure that can throw an adult metres across the air.
The aftermath? Severe external and internal burns, partial or full blindness and deafness, potential loss of limbs due to severity of burns and in lots of cases an arc flash can even be fatal.
At Arden Winch, we believe that raising awareness and understanding the risks is the first step towards preventing incidents.
We work with customers to fully assess the risks of their job and provide the right equipment and protection, we help to create safer workplaces for everyone, including those at highest risk of arc flash exposure.
Arc flashes can occur in both high or low voltage environments but if you work in industrial electrical environments, power generation, ground works, EV or the rail industry you are most at risk of arc flash exposure.
