Eastgate Engineering, a Waterford-based engineering and construction business, intends to almost treble its annual revenue to €150 million by 2030.

Founded by David Brennan in 2015, Eastgate Engineering employs 500 people and recorded revenue of €57.9 million in the year ending March 2026, with offices in Waterford City, England and Scotland.

Today is Cycle for Leon! 🩷🚲

20+ of us set off on the cycle from Redcar to Saltburn to raise money for the Irish Hospice Foundation in memory of our dear friend Leon Bourke.

There were plenty of giggles, a few falls but a lot of team spirit along the way before the ride finished at the Ship Inn.

A huge thank you to Bike Base in Great Ayton for the bike hire as well as our amazing sponsors - Hartlepool Cable Services Ltd, Morson Vital, Lockwell Electrical, Shorterm Group, Caswells Group and Power Wholesale.

This Friday, 4th September, we will be taking on Cycle for Leon 🚲🩷 - a 5-mile coastal bike ride from Redcar to Saltburn, in memory of our much-loved colleague and friend, Leon Bourke, who we sadly lost unexpectedly last November.

Leon was the heart of our company, and this ride is our way of doing something he loved: bringing people together. All funds raised are going to the Irish Hospice Foundation, a charity Leon supported himself through cycling. We've already raised £2,530! There’s a lot changing across the energy industry right now.

Across Europe, energy security is back at the top of the agenda. Recent global events, ageing infrastructure and the need to modernise energy systems are driving major investment, with plenty more still to come.

But it’s not just where investment is going that’s changing. David Brennan, CEO of Eastgate Engineering, is also seeing a shift in how clients approach major projects.

Cost and risk are becoming bigger considerations, and clients are bringing engineering and construction teams into conversations earlier,before key decisions have already been made.

There’s also a growing willingness to look beyond the biggest names in the industry. As David sees it, medium-sized engineering and construction companies have a real opportunity to show that major, complex projects can be delivered differently.

Ultimately, it comes back to having the right people around the table, working together and building trust through delivery.

David shares his thoughts on what these changes could mean for the future of the industry.

This September, we’re coming together to remember a much-loved friend and colleague, Leon Bourke. 💙

On Friday 4th September, we’ll be taking part in Cycle for Leon, a 5-mile coastal charity bike ride from Redcar Majuba Road to Saltburn Beach, raising funds for the Irish Hospice Foundation, a cause close to Leon’s heart.

Leon was a huge presence in the very best way. He had time for everyone, no matter their role or title, and brought people together with his honesty, warmth and brilliant sense of humour.

This ride is our way of doing the same: coming together, having a bit of fun and remembering the amazing man Leon was.

Today is Leon's 48th birthday. 🕯️

We'll be thinking of him all day, and we wanted to take a moment to celebrate the man who was, quite simply, the heart of Eastgate.

Leon had a gift for making people feel seen and valued. His kindness, his humour, his generosity- they touched everyone lucky enough to know him, and his presence brought warmth and light to every room he walked into. For so many of us, he wasn't just a colleague, he was a close friend. He listened. He showed up. He made time for people, every single day.

On what should have been a day of celebration, we're holding him close in our hearts and thinking of his family and friends, who we know are feeling this day deeply too.

Happy birthday, Leon. You're still so loved, and still so missed. 🩷

𝐀𝐩𝐩𝐫𝐞𝐧𝐭𝐢𝐜𝐞𝐬𝐡𝐢𝐩 𝐒𝐩𝐨𝐭𝐥𝐢𝐠𝐡𝐭: 𝐃𝐞𝐯𝐞𝐥𝐨𝐩𝐦𝐞𝐧𝐭 𝐉𝐨𝐮𝐫𝐧𝐞𝐲𝐬 👏

At Eastgate Engineering, we believe apprenticeships are about much more than achieving a qualification. They’re about gaining hands-on experience, learning from the people around you and building the confidence and skills needed for a long-term career.

We’re sharing the development journeys of Cameron Allison and Reece Lowes.

Cameron has been with Eastgate for four years and has wanted to become an electrician from a young age. During his time with us, he’s gained experience across a range of projects and sectors, from oil and gas to renewable energy.

As Cameron puts it:
“I enjoy the variety of work at Eastgate. I’ve worked on a range of projects over the years, from oil and gas to renewable energy, which has given me a lot of valuable experience.”

Working alongside different people has also helped Cameron build his confidence and knowledge, and he already has his sights set on the next stage of his development, with ambitions to become more involved in the quality side of the work, particularly QA/QC.

Reece’s journey with Eastgate began with a work placement while he was at college. After enjoying his time with the team, that initial placement developed into an apprenticeship and the start of his career with us.

Since then, Reece has worked on a variety of jobs alongside experienced colleagues, helping him develop both his skills and confidence. His highlights so far include completing courses such as the GWO and passing all of his college exams.

“Working away can sometimes be challenging, but it also gives me the opportunity to work in different places, meet new people and gain more experience.”

Cameron and Reece’s journeys are great examples of what apprenticeships can offer: practical experience, recognised qualifications, exposure to different projects and the opportunity to keep learning from experienced people in the industry.

𝐌𝐞𝐞𝐭 𝐨𝐮𝐫 𝐂𝐨𝐦𝐦𝐞𝐫𝐜𝐢𝐚𝐥 𝐃𝐢𝐫𝐞𝐜𝐭𝐨𝐫, 𝐀𝐧𝐭𝐡𝐨𝐧𝐲 𝐅𝐢𝐬𝐤𝐞 🤝

Anthony joined the Eastgate team in 2023 and, in April 2025, was promoted to Commercial Director, bringing with him an extensive track record of exceeding client expectations throughout his career.

With over 18 years of hands-on industry experience across commercial operations and project controls, Anthony started out as a Technical Clerk. “Like many others; I wasn’t sure exactly what I wanted to do, though I did know that I enjoyed computers and maths”. Throughout this position, Anthony spent much of his time supporting the QS team and “it was during this period that my passion for Quantity Surveying truly developed, as it brought together my interests in both computers and mathematics”. With determination to follow this path, Anthony studied for an Advanced Diploma in Quantity Surveying and steadily progressed throughout a multitude of roles within the industry. His philosophy, “it’s never too late to learn and grow” reflects his drive and determination.

Anthony applies this extensive knowledge and forward-thinking approach to his role as Commercial Director at Eastgate, playing a vital role in the company’s growth and ambition. “I am excited for what the future holds and proud to be part of Eastgate Engineering’s journey”.

Outside of work, Anthony is a dedicated football fan. “When I’m not watching my beloved Middlesborough FC, or any other team, I’m buried in fantasy football: plotting transfers, scouting players, and even delivering pep talks to my imaginary squad as if they can actually hear me.”

👋 How long have you been with Eastgate?
"I've been with Eastgate since August 2025."

💼 Tell us a bit about your role and your journey at Eastgate.
"As Group Financial Controller, I oversee the company's finance function and have been focused on strengthening our Finance team to support Eastgate's continued growth. Since joining, I've also led the implementation of our new ERP system, helping to streamline processes and build the foundations for the future."

🚀 What do you enjoy most about your job?
"I love the pace of the business; no two days are ever the same. There's always a new challenge to tackle, which makes it a great environment for learning and development. I'm also incredibly proud of our all-female Finance team and everything we've achieved together."

🏆 What's been your proudest moment at Eastgate so far?
"Seeing Eastgate win Tees Business of the Year has definitely been a highlight. I've only been part of the business for a relatively short time, so I can't take any credit for that achievement, but it was inspiring to see the dedication and hard work of colleagues recognised in such a significant way. It was a proud moment for everyone at Eastgate and gives us all great confidence for the future."
