GODALMING RESIDENCE · BEFORE & AFTER
The rear of this period home in Godalming, Surrey had become tired and closed off. The old back elevation faced the garden but never made the most of it, and the everyday spaces inside — laundry, washing, the family bathroom — felt cramped and dated, working harder than they should for a home of this character.
We added a considered single-storey brick extension across the rear, opening the house to the garden through generous glazing and rooflights. Inside, a new vaulted utility and laundry room now sits beneath exposed oak posts and beams, with a long run of handleless cabinetry and natural light pouring in from above. The reworked bathroom carries the same quiet language — large-format tiles, a walk-in shower, a recessed niche, a floating timber vanity and a wall-hung WC, all framed by oak and a rooflight overhead.
This is a calm, light-filled extension designed to feel as though it has always been part of the home. Every junction is considered, every material chosen to sit comfortably alongside the original house — bespoke craftsmanship from a family-run, trusted team working on heritage and architecturally significant homes across Surrey and South West London.
