Beneficiary of the Kingston Resilience Fund
We use certified Smokeless Coal. The Surbiton Community Forge was set up at the beginning of 2023 by four volunteers, William (who's vision created this initiative), Nick, Emma and Ian. The aim of the Forge is to promote a dying craft and to allow the loc

al community to experience basic blacksmithing. We are self-funded and we have had to make or source all of the tools and equipment we use, which is a slow process. We hope soon to be able to offer experience days and to sell some of the items that we make on-line and at local farmers' markets.

We had the pleasure of discussing the community forge with Alec Steele at Maker Central today. He loves the project and what we have achieved. He is such a nice guy and a great inspiration.

Alex did a great job at the forge today, made a candlestick and used a horse shoe as a base. Well done Alex.

A very big thank you to The Drapers Company https://thedrapers.co.uk for providing funds to allow us to invest in new tools and equipment. It was like Christmas opening the box from Victory Tools in Norfolk. Also, nice to know we are supporting a traditional British tool maker. Two stands have been made for the new anvils out of reclaimed railway sleepers, now very heavy. The Swage Blocks, hammers and tongs will be put to good use this weekend.

Once agin, many thanks for The Drapers Company generosity.

Celebrate the ancient tradition of sardine fishing in the River Thames in Surbiton. Since sardines were once again introduced to the river in 2005, local people have celebrated the capture of this magical food with a festival. Bands and entertainment all day, delicious fresh food a...

Have you ever thought about having a go a Blacksmithing? Well, right in the heart of Surbiton is our small community forge. We have been running for 3 years now and run regular experience days where people can have a go. We give full guidance, so even if you have never held a hammer before you will go away having made 4 or 5 items.

We have just announced dates for May and June, so why not book an experience day, we know you will love it :-).
