💧 INFILTRATION TESTING — WHY IS IT SO IMPORTANT?
When it comes to managing surface water on a development, getting the drainage strategy right is critical.
An infiltration test is used to determine how quickly water can soak into the ground. It tells us how suitable the underlying soil is for systems such as soakaways and other infiltration-based drainage solutions.
Put simply — where is the rainwater going to go?
Before designing or installing a surface water drainage system, we need to understand the ground conditions. If the soil doesn’t allow water to infiltrate quickly enough, a soakaway may not be suitable and an alternative drainage solution may be required.
This is why infiltration testing is such an important part of the planning and design process.
✅ Establishes the ground’s infiltration rate
✅ Helps determine whether a soakaway is suitable
✅ Supports the design of surface water drainage systems
✅ Helps prevent surface water problems further down the line
✅ Provides important information for engineers, designers and planning requirements
At BMK, we can carry out infiltration testing as part of your development’s groundworks and drainage requirements.
Getting the information before you build can save significant time, money and headaches later.
🌧️ Surface water needs somewhere to go — make sure you’ve got a plan for it.
