Today we bring you another review from the 300 Series. Jo at Tannoyista Reviews has published her in-depth review of the AE320 floorstander that includes this as the conclusion…

“They’re attractive, well-built and great fun to listen to — a speaker that will please those who want scale, musicality and a relaxed top end without sacrificing clarity or timing. These speakers are a game changer for sound at this price point. With these, the sound punches way above their weight.”

Acoustic Energy is proud to announce the launch of the AE Active – a new and improved version of the well-established, award-winning AE1 Active loudspeaker, updated and upgraded for 2026… both acoustically and aesthetically.

Building on nearly four decades of loudspeaker innovation, the new AE Active combines the brand’s heritage of precision engineering with the convenience demanded by today’s hi fi enthusiasts. The result is a compact, self powered speaker system that removes the need for external amplification while preserving the musicality and accuracy that define Acoustic Energy products.

At its core, the AE Active is a fully active, two way stand-mount loudspeaker featuring integrated Class A/B amplification and dedicated amplification for each driver. This bi amped configuration ensures optimal performance, delivering exceptional clarity, dynamic headroom and precise driver control.

The system also incorporates Acoustic Energy’s NEW signature pure-piston ceramic/aluminium cone for the mid-bass driver. This was recently developed for the AE1 40th Anniversary model and engineered to minimise distortion and eliminate cone flex. Working alongside a precision engineered aluminium dome tweeter enhanced by proprietary Wide Dispersion Technology (WDT), both technologies offer a wide, immersive soundstage with outstanding accuracy and detail.

Designed with purity in mind, the AE Active features a fully analogue signal path, avoiding DSP and digital processing to preserve audio integrity. Each speaker houses upgraded dual 50 watt Class A/B amplifiers powered by high quality linear power supplies, ensuring consistent, low noise performance across the frequency range. NEW for the AE Active update is a convenient auto on/off switch, much requested by users of the original AE1 Active.

Flexibility is central to the AE Active design, with both balanced XLR and RCA inputs allowing seamless connection to a wide range of source devices including DACs, preamps and high resolution streamers. Adjustable bass and treble controls enable fine tuning to suit room acoustics and placement, offering greater control over the listening experience.

“The AE Active represents our commitment to delivering true high fidelity performance without unnecessary complexity,” said Mat Spandl, MD at Acoustic Energy. “By focusing on analogue design principles and integrating amplification directly within the speaker, we’ve created an updated system that offers even better high-quality audio performance with modern convenience.”

With its compact footprint, refined cabinet design and premium finishes, the AE Active is equally suited to home audio systems and studio monitoring environments. Its combination of performance, versatility and simplicity reflects Acoustic Energy’s ongoing mission: to bring music to life with precision and authenticity.

The AE Active will be available from authorised Acoustic Energy retailers worldwide, arriving in the Europe and the UK from July. Finished in Walnut Satin Wood Veneer, High Gloss Black or High Gloss White finishes all models will have a UK SRP of £1,250 per pair, overseas customers will need to contact their local dealer for pricing.

Another fantastic 5 star review for the AE1 40th Anniversary has been left by a customer on our Google page...

The Vibe: Like a heavyweight boxer in a tailored suit. These aren't "polite" bookshelf speakers; they are high-velocity instruments designed for people who actually like to turn the volume up.

The Sound: The "Sonic Boom" that they produce at a scale of sound that makes no sense given their shoebox size. The bass doesn't just "thump" it arrives with a physical authority that makes you check the room for a hidden subwoofer.

Speed Kills: Thanks to those ceramic aluminum drivers, the timing is surgical. If your drummer is playing a fast double-kick, you’ll hear every single stroke, not a blurry mess of "thuds." Make sure you pair them with a grippy and articulate power amp. I am using the ATC-SIA II for that all British silky sound that has defined rock n roll across the Atlantic.

The Midrange Growl: Rock guitars have a "bite" and "growl" that cheaper speakers smooth over. The AE1s give you the raw, live-energy grit of the recording without the "shout."

The Verdict: Most small speakers ask for permission to rock; the AE1s just kick the door down. They are fast, punchy, and unashamedly fun. If you want a "Studio Monitor" that knows how to party in a small apartment lounge, you’ve found it.

Unapologetically fast and surprisingly heavy. It’s the only speaker that makes Led Zeppelin sound like they’re actually in the room and they’ve brought their own security. For those about to rock we salute you. 🤘🏼

"The Acoustic Energy AE300 Mk2 is undoubtedly the best bookshelf speaker available in France under €900 in 2026. Not the most spectacular at first glance. Not the easiest to sell on paper. But the one that, after a few hours of listening, proves itself the obvious choice. The RSC technology and the paper/coconut cone bring a level of sophistication usually only seen at €1,500. What Hi-Fi? ranked it number one ahead of the B&W 607 S3 and the KEF LS50 Meta—and frankly, after hearing it, you understand why."
