Refurbishment progress in Eastbourne

Works are well underway at St Anns Eastbourne Department for Work and Pensions (DWP), where NACWL is delivering the design, supply and installation of the window and curtain walling package for Beard Construction.

With the building now fully scaffolded, our team is progressing the replacement of the existing PVC windows with new high-performance aluminium systems, alongside the installation of AluK (GB) - The Experts in Aluminium curtain walling screens.

One of the key challenges on this project is that the building remains fully operational throughout the works, so careful sequencing and coordination are essential to keep disruption to staff and visitors to a minimum.

This is a great example of upgrading an existing building while keeping business as usual inside.

Lets take a look back at the award-winning English National Ballet at London City Island!

A truly standout project for , and one that perfectly showcases our technical expertise, craftsmanship and attention to detail behind our facade work.

Our team delivered the design, supply and installation of the glazing package for the English National Ballet's purpose-built home, including aluminium and steel curtain walling, windows, glazed rooflights, aluminium doors, louvres and bespoke fabrications.

The project presented some significant technical challenges, including full-height double-glazed units weighing up to 1 tonne each, requiring bespoke solutions and carefully planned lifting operations.

The result is a striking building and one that went on to receive multiple industry awards including:

- AJ100 Building of the Year

- RIBA Regional Award

- Overall Winner and Best steel project at the Schüco UK and Ireland Awards

- AIA UK Design Award - Medium Project

- RICS Social Impact Awards - Education category winner

- Dezeen Top 10 British projects of the year

When facade remediation and internal reinstatement sit with separate contractors, handovers slip, responsibility gets blurred, and timelines stretch.
