My competition name is Ashton Barry, but my friends call me Barry… or Bazzil when they’re feeling extra friendly!

I’m a 10-year-old Irish Sport Horse, and before I found my forever home, I was owned and produced by the lovely Lauren Kirkpatrick. We had some amazing adventures together, from eventing up to 2-star level to side saddle championships, fancy dress classes, hunting side saddle and so much more.

As I got older, I started to find the bigger show jumping tracks a little worrying. Lauren always put my welfare first, so she took a step back from the bigger competitions and made sure I could keep enjoying all the fun things in life.

That’s when I met Kate (or Kathryn on a Sunday!). She first came to Lauren for a side saddle lesson, and before long she was having lessons on me while travelling all over the country looking for her next riding club horse.

I went to live with Kate on loan, and when Lauren fell pregnant, she offered Kate the chance to make me part of the family permanently.

The rest, as they say, is history… and we’ve been making memories together ever since. ❤️🐴

The humans at John Oates Horseboxes said I could take over their Facebook today, so I thought I’d show you what I get up to when I’m not travelling in style.

Here’s me having a go around the cross-country course. I make it look easy, but apparently my rider thinks she’s the one doing all the work!

One thing I do know is that getting to events is a lot easier when you’re travelling comfortably. Plenty of room, good ventilation and a smooth ride means I arrive ready to enjoy myself.
