Recently David, on e of our Engineers, went to France to carry out a detailed site survey for an installation of a containerised plant room incorporating GRE's refrigeration technology.

Early engagement on site is essential to successful project delivery, allowing our engineers to assess access, plant positioning, service routes and installation requirements before work begins.

By investing time in the planning stage, we can ensure projects are delivered safely, efficiently and to the high standards our clients expect.

Lille is a beautiful and charming city full of kind and welcoming people while David was there he took the time to view some of the amazing architecture and of course the fancy cuisine!

We look forward to bringing this project to life in the coming months.

Another week, another LN2 cryostat build!

This vacuum-insulated cryostat / valve box has been designed to incorporate connectors, valves and relief devices needed to throttle flow on a dual-circuit liquid nitrogen supply system.

Using our 'go to' cryogenic valves by , supplied by , the cryostat will form part of a wider vacuum-jacketed pipe system for cooling a monochromator, at the Diamond Light Source facility in Oxford.

Designed around a LIDAR scan of the facility, the 3D modelled lines are 'dropped' into their virtual home to check for fit, prior to being manufactured. Once manufactured and conditioned, the whole system will be transported to DLS, where it will be fitted, tested and certified by our experienced technicians.

Every once in a while, we get to help a worthy local organisation with some funding/equipment/knowhow.

Yesterday was such a day, when we were treated a guided tour of one of the UK's most fabulous working factory museums - Coldharbour Mill, in Uffculme, Devon.

Purchased by Fox Brothers (famed for making 'Puttees', for military uniforms), in the 1700's, the woolen mill was operational until the 1980's, relying on water (from it's own mill wheel), steam (from its own 'Lancashire' boilers) and electricity (from it own coal-gas electricity plant) over the years before the UK electricity grid was born.

GRE was recently able to support the renovation of a very rare 'combing' machine (of which there are, allegedly only three still in existence) and the mill, very kindly, allowed us to put a a small plaque in machine room.

Run almost entirely by volunteers and charitable contributions, the museum is a true testament to the passion for the preservation of the UK's industrial/engineering past.

Having had the grand tour (for the first time since he visited during a Primary School visit around 40 years ago!), GRE's Commercial Director Steve Alford, would thoroughly recommend a visit to anyone heading South down the M5 for the summer!

Pictured here, is another bespoke system design/build for a client by GRE.

This one is a little special in that it collects, pumps and purifies/scrubs vapour created by the clients process, then re-liquefies it, before decanting it back for re-use - all in one system using one simple controller.

Currently in final tweaking/testing, the system should be coming together in next few weeks, before being put to use by a collaboration between a prestigious UK and US university.

Robin, one of our engineers, has recently attended the ESS site in Sweden, where GRE have multiple pure-water cooling systems installed.

The site was designed to be the worlds most powerful neutron source, where protons are accelerated along a 600 metre long tunnel then hit a tungsten source. This impact spallates the tungsten target and generates neutrons which then scatter into multiple instruments - where groundbreaking research is made.

Robin was there to change a vacuum pump (which removes oxygen from the deionised water to vastly reduce corrosion to the ESS instruments) on one of the systems and complete the Site Acceptance Test on another.

In addition to making complete turnkey systems, a good portion of GRE's work is building vessels and vacuum components for clients to incorporate into their systems. Shown here is one of a pair of OVC's, which have been built in-house (including the machined rings, ports and cover plates) from customer drawings, then welded, assembled and tested, before being cleaned to the client's specification and shipped. The helium leak testing pictured here resulted in a 'flying colours' pass with a leak rate of less that 1x10-12 mbar.l/s (which was considerably better than the customer's pass criteria).

While most of the SIVL that we make is mounted above ground, pictured here is around 60 metres of vacuum jacketed pipework designed for mounting within a ventilated trench. Manufactured in 12m sections (with a flexible joint in the centre for compliance), the of the lines will be welded together onsite by our qualified installation team, to ensure vacuum and leak tightness in a confined space. If you have any SIVL / vacuum jacketed pipe requirements, we would love to hear from you, no matter how complex/alternative the routing!

In addition to making vacuum jacketed lines, GRE Ltd can also design and make pressure testing equipment for safe and convenient site acceptance testing. Pictured here is a test capsule, which incorporates isolation, pressure gauges and quick release couplings for a client wanting to pressure test their equipment with a slick 'one-box' solution.

With the brief not to mount anything to the walls of a brand-new facility at the Harwell Campus, GRE Ltd have recently designed, manufactured and installed an LN2 distribution system for 2 cryocoolers. The distribution manifold has both automated slam shut valves (to insolate the LN2 supply in cases of emergency) and manual isolation, along with integral 'piped-back' pressure relief. If you have have an LN2 distribution requirement, please get in touch, and we would be delighted to assist with all elements, from design through to installation.
