Happy Bank Holiday everyone. - Squadron Update -

With another two months of the year gone, we take a moment to review some of the activities the Squadron has been involved in. Another CO’s parade brought reward and recognition, An open evening was held for new recruits and parents to see what we do at the Squadron, Staff and cadets helped support the SCC Charity Day for Carers, We attended another exciting Farnborough Airshow, The Dorset Expedition was a good opportunity to explore the King Charles 111 coastal path and visit the Bovington Tank Museum. We had a great Interest Talk with a return visit from Wg Cmdr (Dr) Joe Mulae, looking at Aviation Medicine. The National Air & Space Camp industry day afforded a chance to visit over 90 aerospace company stands and see an air display including the Red Arrows. Our 85th Anniversary project covered the Collision of two spitfires over Woking. We were privileged to visit 27 Squadron at RAF Odiham and although we did not fly, we got an excellent hangar tour and a visit to the station armoury and looked at the aircraft’s weapon systems. We hope to fly with them soon. The next couple of months look to be just as busy. Our Story Continues …

🛰️National Air and Space Camp✈️

This week Sgt Bitri attended the National Air and Space Camp from the 15-21 August 2026.

Sgt Bitri Says:

“The National Air and Space Camp was an amazing opportunity to help develop my knowledge and skill in subjects such as Space, Aviation, STEM, and more.

Over the week, not only did I make a huge number of friends, but I also had the opportunity to experience new courses and experiences I would never be able to get at wing or region level. Even though I have already attended this camp previously, almost every day was new and exciting. I was lucky enough to be a part of the second group in the corps to complete the new Bronze Drones Course which was a remarkable experience, which allowed me to earn the Bronze ATP Badge. In addition to this great course, I was lucky enough to be given a gliding spot on the Wednesday which was extremely fun and very exciting. On the last full day of the camp we attended Industry Day which is the most exciting event of the week. The day is attended by cadets from all over the country and every cadet on the camp. Industry Day consisted of many stalls and stands run by different companies and an amazing display of aircraft including the Red Arrows, B17, and the Chinook, however many others were unable to fly due to the weather.

Overall, the camp was an absolute blast and very enjoyable. I’d like to say a big thank you to the Camp WO (WO McCabe) who was a great role-model with an amazing sense of humour. He truly boosted the camps morale and made it an amazing experience.”

Summer Camp in Dorset Day two
Day two was challenging; however, I can gladly say that it was one of my favourite days of camp. We walked along a scenic coastal path, where we learnt more about the history of the route and the surrounding area. Although the walk was tiring at times, the beautiful views made it worthwhile. We also had the opportunity to see Corfe Castle, which was a fascinating piece of history and a great way to finish the day.

1349 Summer camp this year was camping in Dorset and walking the Jurassic Coast.
In my opinion, the first day of summer camp was the most satisfying part of the whole event. Mostly because It was my first time on a ferry and we were mostly walking on the beach for the entirety of it. The warm temperature of August only amplified the experience, the pleasant weather allowing us to enjoy the around 11kilometres of walking. We also managed to have ice cream at the end of our beach experience for a short break.
