Waiting for the Next Cut

Over 23 tons and almost 6800 mm long, this cuttershaft has just completed rough turning, including the finishing of the bearing areas.
Now it waits for the next step: milling operations.

What do we mean by full project partner? This ⬇️

This S275JR cradle is part of a transport frame designed to support a massive flywheel shaft weighing several tons and measuring over 3.5 m in diameter.

The full frame reaches approximately 3.6 m in length, 2.5 m in height, and 2.4 m in width.
Here, our team is manufacturing one of the two cradles that will support the shaft ends and keep the component safely positioned during handling and transport 🧑‍🏭

Each cradle weighs over 150 kg, with a Ø630 mm support area, 30 black bars, and plywood inserts added later.

Large-scale machining, controlled down to the micron ⚙️

Here’s the pre-finishing phase of a synchronous generator rotor slot on our Safop Leonard CNC 60/1800.

Thanks to chuck clamping configuration and optimized machining conditions, this machine can achieve precision levels within ±6 µm, with even higher accuracy achievable through a dedicated grinding setup.

Surface integrity under control 🎨

These images show a Penetrant Testing (PT) inspection on a generator rotor, a non-destructive test is used to detect surface-breaking defects such as cracks or porosity,

The process starts with the application of a red liquid penetrant, which seeps into any discontinuities.
Then a developer is applied to draw the penetrant back to the surface, making defects clearly visible under proper lighting.

PT testing ensures that even the smallest surface imperfections are identified before final delivery, supporting reliability and performance in critical components 🔎
