Earlier this year, German Ship Repair Jamaica had the privilege of completing a comprehensive repair scope for offshore tug and supply vessel HF HUNTER. The work included general services, overhauling of thrusters, valves, and propeller blades, blasting and painting, and testing of key systems, ensuring the vessel’s reliable return to service. Docked together with port tug OCEAN TALLAWAH, the project highlighted both regional strength and global reach of our shipyard and showed how Caribbean expertise in ship repair is supporting offshore continuity, as we remain dedicated to delivering reliable services to clients across the Caribbean and beyond.

Project Completed – LPG Tanker ACUMEN I (formerly GAZ AMARIS)
GSRJ Shipyard is proud to announce the successful completion of works on the ACUMEN I, an LPG tanker measuring 119 meters in length, 18.8 meters in breadth, and 8.8 meters in depth.
During the vessel’s intermediate survey, the new owners renamed her from GAZ AMARIS to ACUMEN I, works included blasting and painting, pipe fabrication, tail shaft and rudder clearances and outfitting. The project was completed just in time for her to sail to safety before Category 5 Hurricane Melissa made landfall in Jamaica.

GSRJ Shipyard Fully Operational After Hurricane Melissa

We are relieved to report that GSRJ Shipyard and Floating Dock remain fully operational, having sustained only minor damage during Hurricane Melissa’s devastating passage on 28 October 2025. While Kingston was spared the worst, the destruction across western Jamaica has been catastrophic, and also many of our team members and their families continue to face disruptions to essential services.

We are deeply grateful for the global messages of support and are actively exploring ways to contribute to recovery efforts. Updates will follow as plans develop.

We are proud to announce that GSRJ Shipyard has successfully obtained Lloyd's Register (LR) certification, with class approvals for two welding procedures and eleven welder qualification certificates across various materials. This milestone represents a significant achievement, underscoring our team’s exceptional dedication, technical precision, and perseverance in advancing Jamaica’s industrial and maritime capabilities. We extend our sincere appreciation to our team and partners for their tireless efforts. Congratulations Team!

Beyond the certifications, this accomplishment reflects GSRJ’s commitment to quality, safety, and continuous improvement, while strengthening our role in building local capacity and fostering excellence throughout the Caribbean. As we move forward, GSRJ remains committed to advancing welding training and elevating industry standards in collaboration with valued local training partners such as the HEART NSTA Trust and the Caribbean Maritime University .
