Naathu Ward Community Land Scandal.
In the year 2021, KeNHA was in the process of looking for a suitable location to build a site where Egis and China state could put up a site(lot1.) This is where they would operate from, during construction of the Part of Horn of Africa Gateway.
Naathu Community was approached by the KeNHA team through administration and requested to support with a location, where the contractors Egis and China State would pitch the camp/site during the construction of the said Horn of Africa Gateway Development Project from Garba Tulla(lot2) to Isiolo section and the team secured a place courtesy of the community.
The consultations took place and 18 community projects were identified through a consultant called ACAL.
Among them were:- 2 Boreholes, dispensaries in Bulo and Dumuru, 2 schools in Bulo, Mokam Saba and Mwomwere, 5Km road from Liundu to Bulo, Dumuru and markets and Police stations that would provide security to the project and community in advance.
The deal between the involved parties was so good that our people were convinced to donate the land for free with a promise that AFTER THE CONSTRUCTION OF THE ROAD, THE SITE WOULD BE GIVEN BACK TO COMMUNITY AND BE CONVERTED INTO A University or a College to serve the people with its location being in Naathu ward, Igembe North.
It was on this basis that the community decided to give their land as a way of appreciation for the mouth- watering promises and agreed the said land would not be sold since it would remain their property (as agreed between the involved parties,) and NO ONE would claim its ownership including KeNHA
Through this consultation, the community gave 60acres for the construction site but the documents presented to the County by the then area community leaders indicated 90Acres of which the community realised later that 30 acres were fraudulently sold to an individual of the somali origin.
It has now been confirmed that by the Governor himself that the said Land has been fraudulently sold and allocated to KeNHA and the other 30 acres sold to a private developer (through his fb official page) and no longer belongs to Naathu Community.
It has been established further that the transaction took place during Gov Kiraitu regime where its alleged that money changed hands with arguments that a community cannot give land freely.
Out of the 18 projects promised, NONE has been done and the land is gone just like that.
Naathu and Antuambui communities demand justice and their land back without which, the community has resolved to take legal action against KeNHA , Egis and China state for illegally occupying their land among many other atrocities. The contractors also continues to frustrate any efforts from any residents from any settlements within the area in pretext that any human settlements would bring labour influx into the project, but in reality its a way of protecting the contractor to continue employing foreigners to do even the menial jobs including cooks, cleaners, watchmen etc which should be a priority to the locals. This is a true sad story of modern day colonisation of the locals by foreigners in their own land. Pathetic!!!
The community will also sue the Meru County government Led my Gov Mutuma M'ethingia for illegally allocating/selling and issuance of title deed to KeNHA and other individuals without community concent or consultation with the affected community.
Community Questions to Governor M'Ethingia.
1. Why and what informed the issuance of the title deeds without consulting the affected community?
2. Why was the title not issued by your predecessors Kiraitu and Kawira?
3. Why are you helbent to divert these projects.
4. Who sold the 30 Acres to one Mr Hassan?
5. As you went on to issue the tittledeed to KENHA, did you bother to know about the welfare of those that donated that landfreely? Don't you know these are the people you swore to protect and serve sir? Isn't that betrayal?
To The area Area MP
The deals started when you were the CEC in Kiraitu administration, the deals went on during the current County administration and title deeds were issued during your tenure as an MP and a leader for the affected.
What do you know about the shoddy deals and why so much silence on the matter?
Who is supposed to defend the people from such exploitation and theft of their lands?
The People Demands answers as they prepare for a legal redress..
