The tunnel’s repetitive vaulted passage, uniform stone surfaces, and lack of geometric detail offer few distinct features for SLAM to anchor on. Its length also means the scanner must keep tracking over an extended, unbroken run with no loop closure to correct against, all in a GPS-denied setting.
Captured in 10 minutes, Artec Jet maintained continuous tracking through these conditions, from entrance to end. The resulting point cloud resolves the stonework courses, arch curvature, and surface wear in detail, making it suitable for structural inspection, condition assessment, documentation, and as-built comparison.
