The tunnel’s repetitive vaulted passage, uniform stone surfaces, and lack of geometric detail offer few distinct features for SLAM to anchor on. Its length also means the scanner must keep tracking over an extended, unbroken run with no loop closure to correct against, all in a GPS-denied setting.

Captured in 10 minutes, Artec Jet maintained continuous tracking through these conditions, from entrance to end. The resulting point cloud resolves the stonework courses, arch curvature, and surface wear in detail, making it suitable for structural inspection, condition assessment, documentation, and as-built comparison.

With the original drawings missing, planning repairs for the £19 million renovation of Queen's Theater required as-built data. Instead of spending months measuring by hand, Artec Ambassador EuroPac3D captured the venue with Artec Ray II in 40 scans from different overlapping locations, covering the auditorium, stage, lobby, and balconies in five hours at up to 1.9 mm accuracy.

"What I find particularly impressive about Artec Ray II is the detail it captures when it's positioned close to a surface," explained Europac3D's Mark Beckett. "It recorded the ornate bas-relief on the balcony fascia exceptionally well, while also capturing the intricate ceiling from 20 to 30 meters away. Surveying large spaces and entire buildings quickly, without losing fine surface detail, is one of Ray II's greatest strengths."

Europac 3D aligned and merged the scans into a single, consistent dataset in Artec Studio. Then an architectural team used the point cloud as a reference for a fully-fledged building model, while acoustic consultants are using it to tune the refurbished auditorium virtually.

IMTS 2026 opens in two weeks. If there's a part you'd like to see digitized, bring it to booth 134246 and we'll scan it live on the device suited to it:

✴︎ Artec Leo, wireless and AI-powered, for machinery and tooling
✴︎ Artec Spider II, handheld and target-free, for intricate geometry
✴︎ Artec Point II, metrology-grade and ISO-certified, for inspection and reverse engineering
✴︎ Artec Micro II, 5-micron-accurate desktop, for small parts

The tripod-mounted LiDAR Artec Ray II and the SLAM-based autonomous mapping solution Artec Jet will be on the stand too, for anyone who needs a digital twin of an entire production facility. One more device will be there as well, on public display for the first time.

You'll also meet teams from our partners across the United States: Rapid Scan 3D, Direct Dimensions, Inc., GoMeasure3D, Digitize Designs, MatterHackers, Inc., TriMech, Hawk Ridge Systems, 3DMakerWorld, Laser Design, Impac Systems Engineering, ProtoBear, Nota3D, Solidxperts and Indicate Technologies.

See you in Chicago!

Artec's experts took Artec Jet to the Bull Temple in Bangalore, an active place of worship where crowds, ornate carvings, and doorways that normally cause tracking loss with 3D scanners would ordinarily make digitizing the site nearly impossible.

Jet's SLAM-based LiDAR technology made quick work of the relatively featureless interior, and one 30-minute sweep of the shrine was enough to map the entire area. Artec Ray II was deployed at the same time to digitize the divine beings etched onto the outside, taking total scan time up to 1 hour.

Artec Jet, our new survey-grade mobile LiDAR scanner, gets a live walkthrough and hands-on demo on September 23, together with Impac Systems Engineering.

SLAM-based scanning lets one operator walk, drive, or fly through a site, coming away with survey-grade point clouds that feed directly into digital twin, surveying, GIS & BIM workflows.

In this webinar, we’ll cover:
▫️What Artec Jet is – SLAM-based LiDAR capturing 1.9 million points per second at up to ±10 mm accuracy, with no GPS required
▫️Artec Jet’s seven deployment modes – handheld, backpack, telescopic pole, cage, vehicle mount, drone, and robot platforms
▫️A live, hands-on demo from Impac Systems’ expert engineering team
▫️How Impac Systems can help integrate Artec Jet into your workflow

For N90 Toyota Hilux owners looking to fit accessories, there wasn’t a clean, factory-style switch panel available. Forma 3D set out to make one.

They 3D scanned the factory dash insert with Artec Leo, capturing every mounting clip, contour and locating feature. That gave them the foundation to build an accurate CAD model. Several prototypes were produced to validate the design inside a genuine N90 Hilux, fine-tuning clip engagement, switch spacing and panel alignment.

The panel is printed in durable black SLA resin. Installation is completely reversible and requires no cutting or drilling.

Fluor Field, a 6,700-seater stadium captured with Artec Jet SLAM-based LiDAR mapping. Jet ran on a backpack for the walk, then on a Gator vehicle to minimize exposure to the sprinklers, 30 minutes end to end. In Artec Twins, elevation filters make it possible to identify individual rooms and capture complete as-built floorplans.

How to scan a room with a 3D scanner: https://ow.ly/GcBO50ZBZlf

A scan of an entire room gives you the exact dimensions of every surface, and that one dataset serves renovation measurements, film and game environments, VR, interior design concepts, and heritage documentation.

Our guide covers why you would scan a room, how to do it with Artec Ray II and Artec Leo, and what to keep in mind along the way.
