As part of the 𝗜𝗥𝗥𝗜𝗚𝗢𝗣𝗧𝗜𝗠𝗔𝗟®project already underway in Malta, and in collaboration with the 𝗥𝗲𝘀𝗲𝗮𝗿𝗰𝗵 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗔𝗱𝘃𝗶𝘀𝗼𝗿𝘆 𝗦𝗲𝗿𝘃𝗶𝗰𝗲𝘀 𝗗𝗶𝗿𝗲𝗰𝘁𝗼𝗿𝗮𝘁𝗲 within the Ministry for Agriculture, Fisheries and Animal Rights (MAFA), we recently held an operational meeting with the tomato growers’ group coordinated by 𝗠𝗮𝗴𝗿𝗼 𝗕𝗿𝗼𝘁𝗵𝗲𝗿𝘀. The group includes eight farmers from who will be directly involved in the installation and implementation of the IRRIGOPTIMAL® system.

✨ We would like to sincerely thank 𝗠𝗮𝗴𝗿𝗼 𝗕𝗿𝗼𝘁𝗵𝗲𝗿𝘀 for hosting the meeting and for their continuous support in coordinating the tomato growers’ group, which plays a key role in the successful rollout of the project. We also extend our gratitude to the Research and Advisory Services Directorate within MAFA, with whom we are managing the IRRIGOPTIMAL® project across multiple agricultural value chains, including the wine sector (coordinated by 𝗗𝗲𝗹𝗶𝗰𝗮𝘁𝗮 𝗪𝗶𝗻𝗲𝗿𝘆) and the olive sector (coordinated by the 𝗢𝗹𝗶𝘃𝗲 𝗚𝗿𝗼𝘄𝗲𝗿𝘀’ 𝗖𝗼𝗼𝗽𝗲𝗿𝗮𝘁𝗶𝘃𝗲).

🔗 The initiative combines MAFA's network of weather stations with IRRIGOPTIMAL® technology, adding a solar-powered field unit equipped with soil sensors to monitor key parameters such as 𝘀𝗼𝗶𝗹 𝗺𝗼𝗶𝘀𝘁𝘂𝗿𝗲, 𝘁𝗲𝗺𝗽𝗲𝗿𝗮𝘁𝘂𝗿𝗲, 𝘀𝗮𝗹𝗶𝗻𝗶𝘁𝘆, 𝗲𝗹𝗲𝗰𝘁𝗿𝗶𝗰𝗮𝗹 𝗰𝗼𝗻𝗱𝘂𝗰𝘁𝗶𝘃𝗶𝘁𝘆 (𝗘𝗖), 𝗽𝗛, 𝗡𝗣𝗞, 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗿𝗼𝗼𝘁 𝘇𝗼𝗻𝗲 𝘁𝗲𝗻𝘀𝗶𝗼𝗻. Our goal is simple: to help farmers irrigate at the right time and with the right amount of water, improving efficiency while reducing water waste and crop stress.

This meeting marks an important step in the ongoing implementation of the project, which supports the digital transformation and sustainability of ’s agricultural supply chains through practical, data-driven irrigation management.

Last week, WES Trade took part in an 𝗘𝗨 𝗕𝘂𝘀𝗶𝗻𝗲𝘀𝘀 𝗠𝗶𝘀𝘀𝗶𝗼𝗻 𝘁𝗼 𝗦𝗼𝘂𝘁𝗵 𝗞𝗼𝗿𝗲𝗮, during which we had the opportunity to participate in ENVEX 2026: one of Asia’s leading environmental technology exhibitions.

🌱 The mission and exhibition provided a valuable platform to connect with industry professionals, exchange insights, and explore new opportunities for collaboration in the environmental sector. During the event, we presented 𝗕𝗹𝘂𝗲 𝗗𝗿𝗼𝗽 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗜𝗥𝗥𝗜𝗚𝗢𝗣𝗧𝗜𝗠𝗔𝗟®, both innovative systems which attracted significant interest from visitors and stakeholders thanks to their sustainable and forward-looking approach.

After 36 months of activity, the 𝗕𝗟𝗨𝗘 𝗗𝗥𝗢𝗣 project has successfully concluded, demonstrating how advanced pressure transient monitoring can revolutionize 𝘄𝗮𝘁𝗲𝗿 𝗱𝗶𝘀𝘁𝗿𝗶𝗯𝘂𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻 𝗻𝗲𝘁𝘄𝗼𝗿𝗸 𝗺𝗮𝗻𝗮𝗴𝗲𝗺𝗲𝗻𝘁 by improving the control of real and apparent losses while increasing operational efficiency.

📍 The monitoring activities were carried out in two main areas: 𝗣𝗶𝘁𝗸𝗮𝗹𝗶 – Central Malta and 𝗧𝘂𝗻𝗻𝘆𝗡𝗲𝘁 – North Malta, enabling a comparative and high-resolution analysis of different network conditions.

Through the use of high-frequency pressure transient data loggers, the project enabled the identification of phenomena often invisible to traditional monitoring systems, such as water hammer events, pressure oscillations, and anomalies related to Pressure Reducing Valves (PRVs).

The project, coordinated by WES Trade Ltd in collaboration with 𝗨𝗻𝗶𝘃𝗲𝗿𝘀𝗶𝘁𝗮̀ 𝗱𝗲𝗴𝗹𝗶 𝗦𝘁𝘂𝗱𝗶 𝗱𝗶 𝗣𝗮𝗹𝗲𝗿𝗺𝗼, 𝗨𝗻𝗶𝘃𝗲𝗿𝘀𝗶𝘁𝗮̀ 𝗱𝗲𝗴𝗹𝗶 𝘀𝘁𝘂𝗱𝗶 𝗱𝗶 𝗘𝗻𝗻𝗮 “𝗞𝗼𝗿𝗲”, 𝗠𝗖𝗔𝗦𝗧, 𝘄𝗮𝘀 𝗰𝗼-𝗳𝗶𝗻𝗮𝗻𝗰𝗲𝗱 𝗯𝘆 𝗠𝗮𝗹𝘁𝗮 𝗘𝗻𝘁𝗲𝗿𝗽𝗿𝗶𝘀𝗲 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝘀𝘂𝗽𝗽𝗼𝗿𝘁𝗲𝗱 𝗯𝘆 𝗪𝗮𝘁𝗲𝗿 𝗦𝗲𝗿𝘃𝗶𝗰𝗲𝘀 𝗖𝗼𝗿𝗽𝗼𝗿𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻, representing an important step forward in the digitalization of water infrastructure.

💬 “𝗕𝗟𝗨𝗘 𝗗𝗥𝗢𝗣 has demonstrated that high-resolution 100Hz pressure and flow monitoring to this zone, we have opened a true Pandora’s box of network dynamics. Standard loggers simply smoothed over data, but this high-frequency approach has exposed a hidden world of severe transient spikes, water hammer events, and PRV instabilities that actively degrade our infrastructure. More importantly, these rapid fluctuations have revealed a direct link to apparent water losses, proving that network instability actively compromises the accuracy of our consumption meters.
This project represents a major step forward in our digital transformation, moving us from manual oversight to a fully connected, data-driven network. By streaming this high-resolution data into advanced hydraulic models and AI-powered analytics, we can begin predictive modeling to anticipate bursts before they happen, optimize PRV behaviors automatically, and isolate anomalous flow patterns. This project fundamentally changes how we view asset health; we now have the granular foundation required to transition from reactive leak repairs to intelligent, proactive pressure management.”

Through the integration of IoT, Artificial Intelligence, and Machine Learning technologies, the project aims to support more 𝗲𝗳𝗳𝗶𝗰𝗶𝗲𝗻𝘁 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝘀𝘂𝘀𝘁𝗮𝗶𝗻𝗮𝗯𝗹𝗲 𝗮𝗴𝗿𝗶𝗰𝘂𝗹𝘁𝘂𝗿𝗮𝗹 𝗽𝗿𝗮𝗰𝘁𝗶𝗰𝗲𝘀, reducing water waste and improving soil quality in a context increasingly affected by climate change and the scarcity of natural resources.

We are thrilled to announce the successful closure of the 𝗠𝗔𝗥𝗜𝗡𝗔 𝗣𝗟𝗨𝗦 project ("Advancing Automation for Tuna Fish Farm Monitoring")! Developed under the 𝗙𝗨𝗦𝗜𝗢𝗡 𝗥&𝗜 𝗧𝗲𝗰𝗵𝗻𝗼𝗹𝗼𝗴𝘆 𝗗𝗲𝘃𝗲𝗹𝗼𝗽𝗺𝗲𝗻𝘁 𝗣𝗿𝗼𝗴𝗿𝗮𝗺𝗺𝗲 𝗟𝗶𝘁𝗲 and funded by Xjenza Malta, this project has set a new benchmark for offshore technology.

🎯 𝗪𝗵𝗮𝘁 𝗵𝗮𝘃𝗲 𝘄𝗲 𝗮𝗰𝗵𝗶𝗲𝘃𝗲𝗱? Over the past 18 months, WES TRADE LTD has worked tirelessly to transition monitoring from traditional manual methods to a cutting-edge, AI-driven 𝗗𝗲𝗰𝗶𝘀𝗶𝗼𝗻 𝗦𝘂𝗽𝗽𝗼𝗿𝘁 𝗦𝘆𝘀𝘁𝗲𝗺 (𝗗𝗦𝗦). Key technical milestones include:
• 𝗙𝗿𝗼𝗺 𝟮𝗗 𝘁𝗼 𝟯𝗗: We successfully moved beyond limited 2D image analysis to advanced 3D stereoscopic vision, allowing for highly accurate, non-invasive volumetric biomass estimation.
• 𝗘𝗱𝗴𝗲 𝗖𝗼𝗺𝗽𝘂𝘁𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗮𝘁 𝗦𝗲𝗮: By integrating 𝗡𝗩𝗜𝗗𝗜𝗔 𝗝𝗲𝘁𝘀𝗼𝗻 modules directly into our underwater monitoring infrastructure, we enabled real-time video processing in a harsh offshore environment.
• 𝗢𝗽𝗲𝗿𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻𝗮𝗹 𝗦𝘂𝗰𝗰𝗲𝘀𝘀: We have officially progressed the technology from 𝗧𝗥𝗟𝟰 𝘁𝗼 𝗧𝗥𝗟𝟳, validating our system in real industrial conditions within a Maltese tuna farm.

🌊 𝗪𝗵𝘆 𝗱𝗼𝗲𝘀 𝗶𝘁 𝗺𝗮𝘁𝘁𝗲𝗿? Our automated platform provides farm operators with real-time insights into fish growth, health scores, and behavioral patterns. This means improved fish welfare, reduced operational costs, and more sustainable management of our marine resources.

𝗪𝗵𝗮𝘁’𝘀 𝗻𝗲𝘅𝘁? While this chapter closes, the roadmap for commercialization and further research is just beginning. We look forward to scaling this technology to support the blue economy in and beyond.

🇲🇹 𝗪𝗘𝗧𝗪𝗜𝗦𝗘 𝗗𝗮𝘀𝗵𝗯𝗼𝗮𝗿𝗱 𝗗𝗲𝘀𝗶𝗴𝗻 𝗠𝗲𝗲𝘁𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗶𝗻 𝗠𝗮𝗹𝘁𝗮

We are happy to share significant progress on the development of the prototype of WETWISE Dashboard during the 12/5 and 13/05 with two very deep afternoon sessions with Prof. De Marchis from Università degli Studi di Palermo.

🌍 The WETWISE project, part of the 𝗜𝗡𝗧𝗘𝗥𝗥𝗘𝗚 𝗩𝗜 𝗔 𝗜𝘁𝗮𝗹𝘆-𝗠𝗮𝗹𝘁𝗮 𝗣𝗿𝗼𝗴𝗿𝗮𝗺, focuses on the restoration of coastal wetlands to counter environmental degradation caused by climate change and anthropogenic pressures. The project aims to demonstrate the effectiveness of wetland restoration as a strategy to combat environmental degradation, improve biodiversity, and mitigate the impact of climate change. The project involves the activation of a continuous, real-time monitoring system, associated with the development of digital twins of the study sites, to support the co-design and implementation of sustainable and effective restoration actions. The ultimate goal is to define a shared roadmap for the cross-border area between and , which will serve as the basis for a common action plan and a lasting commitment to enhancing coastal wetland restoration activities in the program area and beyond.

WES TRADE is partner of a Consortium led by the Università di Catania, under the INTERREG ITALIA- MALTA project with the presence of University of Palermo, Municipality of , University of Malta and UKE Università Kore Enna - pagina ufficiale. We are currently developing an integrated dashboard that is collecting data from all different deployed sensors in all three pilot zones between Italy and Malta.

🔗 In these sessions we had the chance to discuss with University of Palermo some of their inputs from hydrodynamics and to show the first mock-up of the dashboard using also satellite data and 𝗣𝗼𝘀𝗶𝗱𝗼𝗻𝗶𝗮 𝗺𝗮𝗽𝘀 from processing.

New meetings are forecast with the other partners in the next weeks to complete the design of the 𝗪𝗘𝗧𝗪𝗜𝗦𝗘 𝗱𝗮𝘀𝗵𝗯𝗼𝗮𝗿𝗱.
