⚙️ During the technical days, WES Trade Ltd presented 𝗜𝗥𝗥𝗜𝗚𝗢𝗣𝗧𝗜𝗠𝗔𝗟®, the intelligent irrigation management platform that integrates IoT sensors, meteorological data, and decision-support tools to optimize resource use and improve farm sustainability.

The event represented an important opportunity for discussion between universities, institutions, businesses, and Italian and Tunisian partners, with the aim of accelerating the digital and sustainable transition of the oil supply chain through Industry 4.0 technologies, precision agriculture, and innovation transfer.

🇲🇹 We are proud to be among the five organizations that received funding under the 5th joint call for research and innovation proposals of the 𝗫𝗷𝗲𝗻𝘇𝗮 𝗠𝗮𝗹𝘁𝗮–𝗧𝗨̈𝗕𝗜̇𝗧𝗔𝗞 𝗽𝗿𝗼𝗴𝗿𝗮𝗺𝗺𝗲.

Our project, 𝗡𝗔𝗧𝗨𝗥𝗔𝗦𝗢𝗥𝗕, aims to develop a fully biodegradable hydrogel derived from agricultural waste, integrated with artificial intelligence and IoT technologies to improve soil water retention, reduce irrigation water requirements, and support more sustainable and climate-resilient systems. The project combines advanced materials science with the 𝗜𝗥𝗥𝗜𝗚𝗢𝗣𝗧𝗜𝗠𝗔𝗟® platform for real-time monitoring and precision irrigation.

📯 The kickoff meeting, hosted by Xjenza Malta, officially inaugurated this new cohort of research projects, and we are excited to begin this journey together with our partners.

Through the 𝗜𝗥𝗥𝗜𝗚𝗢𝗣𝗧𝗜𝗠𝗔𝗟® Schools project, developed by WES Trade Ltd, students at 𝗦𝗽𝗿𝗶𝗻𝗴𝗲𝗿 𝗠𝗲𝗺𝗼𝗿𝗶𝗮𝗹 𝗦𝗰𝗵𝗼𝗼𝗹 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗦𝘁. 𝗚𝗲𝗼𝗿𝗴𝗲 𝗦𝗲𝗰𝗼𝗻𝗱𝗮𝗿𝘆 𝗦𝗰𝗵𝗼𝗼𝗹 are gaining hands-on experience with cutting-edge technologies that are transforming modern agriculture.

👩‍🏫 The initiative is part of a broader collaborative program launched with the Ministry of Agriculture, Food and Nutritional Security, aiming to strengthen local expertise and promote the adoption of innovative digital solutions for more efficient and sustainable .

The program combines:
✅ Artificial Intelligence-based precision agriculture
✅ Interactive e-learning via the 𝗪𝗘-𝗟𝗘𝗔𝗥𝗡 𝗽𝗹𝗮𝘁𝗳𝗼𝗿𝗺
✅ Applied research projects
✅ Hands-on experience with the IRRIGOPTIMAL® decision support system

📚 During the first phase, students will follow a training program consisting of eight online lessons. In the second phase, they will have the opportunity to directly use the 𝗜𝗥𝗥𝗜𝗚𝗢𝗣𝗧𝗜𝗠𝗔𝗟® software, analyzing from real installations, monitoring , , , and , and experiencing firsthand how Artificial Intelligence can support agricultural decisions.

At the conclusion of the project, 𝘁𝘄𝗼 𝘀𝗲𝗹𝗲𝗰𝘁𝗲𝗱 𝘀𝘁𝘂𝗱𝗲𝗻𝘁𝘀, accompanied by their teachers, will have the opportunity to visit , where they will meet the WES Trade Ltd team, learn more about the technologies developed, and enjoy an international training and innovation experience.

🧬 𝗡𝗨𝗠𝗦 𝗥𝗲𝗮𝗰𝗵𝗲𝘀 𝗮 𝗠𝗮𝗷𝗼𝗿 𝗠𝗶𝗹𝗲𝘀𝘁𝗼𝗻𝗲: 𝗙𝗶𝗿𝘀𝘁 𝗖𝘂𝗹𝘁𝗶𝘃𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻 𝗖𝘆𝗰𝗹𝗲 𝗦𝘂𝗰𝗰𝗲𝘀𝘀𝗳𝘂𝗹𝗹𝘆 𝗖𝗼𝗺𝗽𝗹𝗲𝘁𝗲𝗱

We've officially concluded the 𝗳𝗶𝗿𝘀𝘁 𝗰𝘂𝗹𝘁𝗶𝘃𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻 𝗰𝘆𝗰𝗹𝗲 𝗼𝗳 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗡𝗨𝗠𝗦 (𝗡𝗨trient 𝗠anagement 𝗦ystem) project, where we're developing AI-powered technologies for smarter irrigation and nutrient management through real-time field monitoring and data-driven decision making.

🤖 This first phase was essential for designing, building and validating 𝗼𝘂𝗿 𝗶𝗻-𝗵𝗼𝘂𝘀𝗲 𝗱𝗲𝘃𝗲𝗹𝗼𝗽𝗲𝗱 𝗺𝗼𝗱𝘂𝗹𝗮𝗿 𝗜𝗼𝗧-𝗰𝗼𝗻𝘁𝗿𝗼𝗹𝗹𝗲𝗱 𝗶𝗿𝗿𝗶𝗴𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗳𝗲𝗿𝘁𝗶𝗴𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻 𝘀𝘆𝘀𝘁𝗲𝗺, capable of independently managing treated and control plots for both lettuce and tomato crops. This setup allows us to precisely monitor and application while collecting the high-quality field data needed to develop and validate our predictive models.

𝗜𝗥𝗥𝗜𝗚𝗢𝗣𝗧𝗜𝗠𝗔𝗟® 𝗣𝗿𝗼𝗷𝗲𝗰𝘁 𝗣𝗵𝗮𝘀𝗲 𝟭 in entered into the operational phase on Week 6th July – 10th July where a delegation from WES TRADE completed the installations and configurations in the five sites chosen by the local Ministry of Agriculture and Nutritional Security.

🌎 During an intensive week of work installations and configurations were completed at St Lucy and St. Philip sites with 𝗕𝗔𝗗𝗠𝗖 for monitoring sweet potatoes and banana cultivations, MAFS headquarter installations on sweet potatoes, beetroot and insect trap for and finally monitoring at Valley Farm in St. George.

During the week a deep training to a wide delegation was given at MAFS headquarter including a live demo of IRRIGOPTIMAL® platform.

🌱 Some weeks before also IRRIGOPTIMAL® school project started in the two selected schools 𝗦𝘁. 𝗚𝗲𝗼𝗿𝗴𝗲 𝗦𝗲𝗰𝗼𝗻𝗱𝗮𝗿𝘆 𝗦𝗰𝗵𝗼𝗼𝗹 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗦𝗽𝗿𝗶𝗻𝗴𝗲𝗿 𝗠𝗲𝗺𝗼𝗿𝗶𝗮𝗹 𝗦𝗰𝗵𝗼𝗼𝗹.

💬 “We are glad to share this brilliant progress with MAFS and BADMC in Barbados” commented WEST delegation with the two founders Mr. Bucaioni and Mr. ROSA and our technical Manager Mr. Bogdanovic “during the week we had the pleasure to see other fields that can be endorsed into the program in the area of St. Lucy confirming that Barbados has fully endorsed the technology”.

WEST also confirmed to make a donation to local with a perpetual licence and WE-LEARN functionalities under coordination by MAFS. This will allow for young students in Barbados from more schools to benefit on this program in the future without any limitation and giving possibilities to more young students to approach digital .

One year after the conclusion of the 𝗟𝗘𝗠𝗢𝗡 𝗽𝗿𝗼𝗷𝗲𝗰𝘁, we gathered at the Living Lab in Acireale to share results, experiences, and future perspectives.

🛠️ The meeting was an opportunity for hands-on discussion with farmers who have used the 𝗜𝗥𝗥𝗜𝗚𝗢𝗣𝗧𝗜𝗠𝗔𝗟®️ platform, gathering testimonials, suggestions, and ideas for further improving precision agriculture support tools.

IRRIGOPTIMAL®️ is a smart irrigation platform that integrates data from field sensors, meteorological information, and artificial intelligence models to support farmers with irrigation management. Through dynamic irrigation plans, updated based on soil and climate conditions, the system helps optimize water use and improve farm efficiency, always leaving the final decision up to the farmer.

💧 During the discussion, particular attention was also given to the integration between 𝘄𝗮𝘁𝗲𝗿 𝗺𝗮𝗻𝗮𝗴𝗲𝗺𝗲𝗻𝘁 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗻𝘂𝘁𝗿𝗶𝗲𝗻𝘁 𝗺𝗮𝗻𝗮𝗴𝗲𝗺𝗲𝗻𝘁. Efficient irrigation strategies are closely linked to the transport and availability of nutrients in the soil: optimizing water distribution also means improving nutrient uptake by plants, reducing leaching losses, and supporting more balanced fertilization practices. This opens the way to more integrated decision-support systems that combine irrigation scheduling with fertilization planning for even more sustainable agriculture.
