🌞 Advancing Solar Thermal Solutions in Southern Africa

The 9th SOLTRAIN+ Conference, held during , set the tone for deeper regional collaboration and innovation in solar thermal technologies.

From Zimbabwe’s notable progress through strengthened policies, energy efficiency initiatives, and support for local manufacturing to the continued expansion of the SOLTRAIN+ network across the region, one message was clear:

👉 Solar thermal is no longer a niche solution it’s a critical pillar of the energy transition.

Key highlights included:

🔹 Over 6,400 professionals trained across the region

🔹 More than 1,000 solar water heating systems supported in recent years

🔹 Growing focus on renewable heating, cooling, and energy efficiency

🔹 The important role of universities and research institutions in driving innovation and skills development

As the sector evolves, the conversation is shifting toward standardisation, certification, and scaling impact ensuring long-term sustainability and market growth.

💬 Let’s continue the conversation:

What do you think is the biggest opportunity for scaling solar thermal technologies in the SADC region policy, financing, or skills development?
