🎵 Have you ever heard a musical improvisation featuring a quantum computer, a flute, and a bass clarinet?

🤯 Discover how QuTech's quantum computing demonstrator, Quantum Inspire, was used to perform the music piece ‘Kwantumwerk’, composed by Eduardo Reck Miranda and performed by Eduardo, Fie Schouten and Carla Rees.

💬 In the video, you'll see interviews with Eduardo, as well as with Vivek Sinha, Quantum Computing Project Manager at QuTech, and Giuseppe Ruggero Di Carlo, Quantum Computing PhD Candidate.

☁️ The performance was part of the Quantum Computing for Industry and Public sector event in Delft, and it was the second time Quantum Inspire, Europe's only freely accessible quantum computer in the cloud, was involved in an art project, after the ‘Quantum Cat’ installation of Jeroen van der Most. We hope that many other art-related collaborations will follow.

🇳🇱 We’re excited to announce that QuTech is co-hosting a focus session at NWO CHAINS 2025, the Dutch national chemistry conference, organised by the Dutch Research Council.

💡 The session is titled “Can chemists take advantage of quantum technology?” and will welcome speakers from academia (Universität Augsburg and University of Amsterdam) and industry (BMW Group). Quantum computing has the potential to radically advance molecular modelling, catalysis, materials discovery, and drug-discovery. The session will bring together researchers from chemistry, quantum computing, and industry to explore how chemists can leverage these emerging tools to accelerate scientific discovery.

🗓️ Date: 2–3 Dec 2025
📍 Location: NH Koningshof, Veldhoven
👀 More info: edu.nl/vafe8

🤝 We’re proud to support this session together with VU Amsterdam, SURF, Leiden University, eScience Center and Radboud University.

🔎 At QuTech, we are committed to building the quantum technologies that will enable next-generation scientific computing and real-world applications. Our quantum computing demonstrator, Quantum Inspire, makes real quantum hardware available to everyone, for free, to experience and experiment with quantum computing.

🎉 Our very own Stefano Bosco has been selected for the Emerging Leaders Collection by Materials for Quantum Technology with his paper "Dissipation in passive non-reciprocal Hall-effect microwave devices".

🔎 Stefano works on the theory of spin qubits in semiconductor systems, studying how confined electrons respond to electrical and microwave signals. In the awarded paper, he analyses passive non-reciprocal microwave devices based on Hall-conducting materials, and shows how dissipation and the frequency-dependent response affect their performance, even in the presence of losses. His results provide design guidance for compact components such as circulators and gyrators that can help route and protect quantum signals in spin-qubit architectures.

💡 The Emerging Leaders Collection highlights early-career researchers who are making significant contributions to quantum science, with all selected articles published open access.

👏 Congratulations, Stefano!

🚨 News: From Complexity to Control: a 10-spin qubit array in germanium

⚡ Spin qubits in germanium are fast and compatible with semiconductor manufacturing, but their strong sensitivity to electric fields makes large arrays difficult to control. By identifying the right operating regime, Cécile Yu and Valentin John show that this sensitivity can actually be used to our advantage.

🔎 The result is a uniform, high-fidelity 2D array in which each qubit connects to four neighbours, matching the connectivity needed for quantum error correction. The planar array offers many advantages for scaling, compared to the linear arrays usually used for spin qubits.
