What if researchers didn’t compete for funding, but actually wrote grant proposals together?
TU/e researchers Sajedeh Rasti and Daniël Lakens brought together twenty metascientists from twelve Dutch universities to try exactly that.
Instead of working on separate proposals in competition, they collaborated from the start. They developed ideas together, co-wrote grant applications, and actively supported each other throughout the entire process.
The outcome: two joint applications submitted to NWO. Both were funded.
For Rasti, whose research focuses on how scientists coordinate their work, this was more than a successful funding result. It was a real-life experiment in a different way of doing science, one based on collaboration rather than competition.
