A WORLDWIDE FIRST!

Our SOLHY019 is the first-ever diploid Hybrid True Potato Seed variety to be officially registered on the Dutch National Variety Register!

Today, Solynta announced that SOLHY019 has become the first-ever diploid Hybrid True Potato Seed (HTPS) variety to be officially registered on the Dutch National Variety Register and granted Plant Breeder’s Rights.

This historic registration validates hybrid potato breeding as a commercial reality and marks a new era for potato breeding and cultivation. By enabling potatoes to be grown from true seed rather than seed tubers, HTPS offers a more efficient, scalable, and sustainable way to deliver high-quality planting material worldwide.

Official approval by the Dutch Variety Release Committee is widely recognized as a rigorous and trusted standard, ensuring that registered varieties meet official criteria for quality and performance. The successful registration of variety SOLHY019 not only validates Solynta’s breeding technology but also supports our company’s global commercial roll-out of HTPS as a reliable, high-quality starting material.

Huge congratulations to all colleagues and partners who contributed to this achievement. We regard this is a turning point for global potato production, and we are proud to lead this revolution together with our partners, growers, and other stakeholders around the world.

This milestone is the result of years of dedicated work, and it strengthens our commitment to deliver better, more robust potato varieties for growers worldwide. Read our full press release on: https://www.solynta.com/press/first-diploid-hybrid-potato-variety-dutch-potato-variety-list/

At ISF and the World Seed Congress in Lisbon, Solynta’s Ard Rijlaarsdam and Charles Miller had the opportunity to connect with partners, peers, and industry stakeholders from across the global seed sector. During this inspiring week filled with valuable conversations, new perspectives, and exciting opportunities for the future, a new major milestone for Solynta was set: Solynta has officially become a member of the International Seed Federation (ISF) during the General Assembly. Solynta is proud to join an organization committed to creating a world where the best quality seed is accessible to all, supporting sustainable agriculture and food security. This mission strongly aligns with our own vision and ambitions.

Throughout the event, we (re)connected with many existing and potential partners to explore opportunities for opening new markets and further strengthening markets where we are already active. These discussions reinforced the importance of collaboration in driving innovation and sustainable growth across the sector.

At the same time, the congress highlighted once again the complexity of the regulatory landscape surrounding seeds — especially for innovative and novel products such as ours. We appreciated the opportunity to engage with national and regional seed associations on the importance of science-based regulation built on internationally agreed standards, including frameworks such as IPPC and UPOV. Constructive dialogue between industry and regulators remains essential to support innovation while ensuring clarity and consistency across markets.

What stood out most in Lisbon was the enthusiasm for our hybrid true potato seed products and the strong support for our mission. Although potatoes have not traditionally been a major focus crop within ISF, as a breeding company and producer of hybrid true potato seed, we feel we naturally belong in this community — and we are excited to contribute as part of the ISF family.

Thank you to everyone we met during the week. We look forward to continuing the conversations and building the future of sustainable agriculture together.

Delivering Real Change in Burundi’s Potato Sector: introducing hybrid potato varieties with high resistance against Phytophthora Infestans.

Last week was a productive one in Burundi as we continue to build momentum around hybrid potato innovation and seed system development. During this visit, our focus has been on the introduction of new hybrid potato varieties with multiple stacked late blight resistance genes.

's Charles Miller and Antonino Crucitti had the honor of meeting with , President of the Republic of , to align on progress and next steps to strengthen the potato value chain - grounded in long-term partnership and a shared focus on food security.

We also deepened our collaboration with ISABU, advancing research, local validation, and knowledge transfer to ensure sustainable impact.

We are grateful for the continued support of the Government of the Netherlands through the PSSD II project, alongside , whose commitment is helping create the conditions for innovation to scale.

In the field, we celebrated the harvest of clean, disease-free G1 tubers from new potato varieties with high levels of Late Blight resistance, with ADPR—an important milestone demonstrating the strength of the system we are building together. We also engaged with broader value chain partners to align on how to accelerate adoption and ensure farmers can fully benefit from improved genetics and high-quality starting material.

True innovation requires strong partnerships, clear progress, and a continued focus on impact.

We are looking forward to having meaningful conversations at the Global Potato Summit in India, December 11-12 with existing and new business partners from the potato industry. During the upcoming Global Potato Summit in Delhi, India, both Solynta CEO Peter Poortinga and Sales Director Mark Hoogendoorn will be present to meet representatives from the potato sector in India.

During their visit, they will be discussing the introduction of true potato seeds as a transformative solution to the many challenges faced by potato growers in the region. In India, the potato sector is facing multiple challenges, including seed availability, quality and disease management, on top of the complex logistics.

As an innovator in potato breeding, Solynta - true potato seeds aims to build the road to support potato producers with the introduction of new potato varieties grown from True Potato Seeds, with natural high resistances against Late Blight that give good yield and can thrive in demanding environments.

We encourage innovators in the potato industry to reach out to Mark Hoogendoorn directly via [email protected]!

Empowering farmers through innovation

We’re humbled to be recognized once again by the BioTech Breakthrough Awards, this time as the BioAg Breeding Solution of the Year. This acknowledgment reflects the growing recognition of what’s possible through Solynta’s non-GMO hybrid potato breeding technology. (https://biotechbreakthroughawards.com/2025-winners/ )

Our approach accelerates the development of resilient, disease-resistant potato varieties — but the real breakthrough lies in access. By replacing bulky, disease-prone seed tubers with clean, lightweight hybrid true potato seeds (HTPS), we’re helping farmers in regions with limited access to clean starting material grow healthier crops and improve yields.

This technology isn’t just about efficiency — it’s about empowerment. Every seed represents a step toward more sustainable, resilient, and food-secure communities.

At Solynta, we remain committed to driving progress through innovation, collaboration, and scientific excellence. This recognition underscores our mission to transform global potato production and ensure that every grower, regardless of location, has access to quality starting material and the tools needed for success.

Planting Season Begins in Kenya

As the short rains arrive, potato fields in Kenya are once again becoming a hub of innovation. Solynta’s agronomy team is on the ground—working side by side with local growers to establish new trial plots, share best practices, and ensure every true potato seed performs to its potential.

Across several regions, growers are planting seedlings raised directly from Solynta’s true potato seeds (TPS). These hybrids are bred to thrive under local conditions, boost productivity, and reduce dependence on chemical inputs.

With the recent registration of SOLHY015, a late blight–resistant hybrid known for its strong field performance, Solynta continues to expand an ever-evolving pipeline of hybrids tailored for African markets.

Through hands-on agronomic support, data-driven variety development, and close collaboration with growers, Solynta is helping build a resilient and profitable potato sector—one that starts with high-quality seed and grows into lasting impact.
