It's exciting to see the transformation taking shape at Skyline Queenstown. Earlier this year marked the opening of the new top terminal extension, and now Stage 5 is underway. This phase includes deconstruction of the original top terminal before construction begins on its replacement, which will be integrated with the extension to create a seamless visitor experience.

After Stage 1 – 3 of the redevelopment being awarded Gold at this year’s Commercial Project Awards we’re excited to see the final stage progress. Our involvement across the project has included contributions from our Mechanical, Electrical, Civil, Hydraulic and Structural teams.

Opened earlier this year, the new Twizel Area School brings together a range of learning spaces in one cohesive facility, replacing the existing campus. The new development spans two interconnected buildings and includes junior and senior teaching spaces, multi-purpose and administration areas, along with a dedicated technology and music/performing arts block.

The PFC team delivered mechanical, electrical, fire, hydraulic, civil and acoustic engineering services, working in close coordination with BCN Architects and Southbase Construction to achieve a well-integrated outcome that supports both students and staff.

Located in the Mackenzie Region, where temperature extremes are common, the design responds directly to local climate conditions. Full mechanical ventilation with combined heating and cooling has been implemented to support consistent thermal comfort throughout the year. Seismic separation of the building into three parts required careful coordination of services and fire separations, alongside the integration of large clerestory windows that introduce natural light deep into the building. Our acoustic team designed high performance, independent wall systems providing separation between music and workshop spaces to ensure noise isolation despite their close proximity

This project is a fantastic outcome which will serve the education needs of the Twizel community and the wider Mackenzie region for many years to come. We are proud to have contributed to its delivery.

Introducing Ben Dare, our new Head of Structure in our Queenstown office.

We know Queenstown presents its own set of challenges, and with over 20 years of experience, Ben adds further strength to our local team as we continue delivering structural work across the region. As a proud local, he understands the region and the unique considerations that come with building here.

If you have a project in Queenstown, Ben and the team would love to hear from you.

Great to have you on board, Ben.

A big congratulations to Don as he moves into the role of BIM Coordinator.

Kevin joined us in 2022 as a Mechanical Technician and has become an important part of the PFC team. In his new role, he will work closely with Darren Yang, our BIM Manager, supporting the coordination and delivery of projects across the business.

As our BIM team continues to grow, we are helping bring projects to life earlier through intelligent 3D modelling, allowing teams to better coordinate and collaborate seamlessly, resolve design challenges, and reduce risk before construction begins.

If you are planning a project and want a well-coordinated approach from day one, visit our website to get in touch with the team.

Last week, our Mechanical and Sustainability Engineer Zoe McQuoid spoke at the NZGBC Green Speak event, sharing insights on the recent expansion of in New Zealand.

Zoe is already an accredited assessor for offices and is now one of the first accredited assessors for warehouses and cold stores.

If you are interested in understanding how your warehouse or cold store performs relative to similar buildings, Zoe can provide guidance on the assessment process and the potential value a NABERSNZ rating can deliver for your asset.
