We hear the same thing from architects and clients all the time:
"𝙈𝙮 𝙘𝙡𝙞𝙚𝙣𝙩𝙨 𝙬𝙖𝙣𝙩 𝙨𝙪𝙨𝙩𝙖𝙞𝙣𝙖𝙗𝙡𝙚, 𝙗𝙪𝙩 𝙩𝙝𝙚𝙮 𝙘𝙖𝙣'𝙩 𝙖𝙛𝙛𝙤𝙧𝙙 𝙩𝙤 𝙥𝙖𝙮 𝙖 𝙥𝙧𝙚𝙢𝙞𝙪𝙢"

It feels like a compromise you are forced to make. You want to do the right thing, however you want to stay on budget and not lose future work.

More and more projects are proving that sustainable materials don't have to sit at the premium end of the spec. The gap between what clients are asking for and what the numbers allow is closing.

➡️ Specifying sustainable products doesn't automatically mean a cost premium anymore.
➡️ Clients who ask for it early actually help the project, clearer brief, fewer late changes
➡️ And when you can say yes to sustainable design while staying within budget question, that's a big win for your companies reputation.

𝗣𝗮𝗿𝘁𝗻𝗲𝗿𝘀𝗵𝗶𝗽𝘀 𝗮𝗿𝗲 𝘄𝗵𝗲𝗿𝗲 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗰𝗶𝗿𝗰𝘂𝗹𝗮𝗿 𝗲𝗰𝗼𝗻𝗼𝗺𝘆 𝘀𝘁𝗮𝗿𝘁𝘀 𝘁𝗼 𝘀𝗰𝗮𝗹𝗲

One of the things I've learned over the past few years is that no company can solve complex waste challenges on its own.

Since 2024, saveBOARD has partnered with Kingspan Thermakraft to give their flexible underlay offcuts a second life. Instead of becoming waste, these materials are collected and recycled into our Multi-use panels to be used again on construction sites.

For saveBOARD it provides a reliable and clean stream of raw materials and
for Kingspan Thermakraft, it supports their goals of reducing onsite waste.

𝗕𝘂𝘁 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗽𝗮𝗿𝘁𝗻𝗲𝗿𝘀𝗵𝗶𝗽 𝗴𝗼𝗲𝘀 𝗯𝗲𝘆𝗼𝗻𝗱 𝗿𝗲𝗰𝘆𝗰𝗹𝗶𝗻𝗴.
Without knowing it, you've probably seen the saveBOARD branding printed directly onto Kingspan Thermakraft's underlays, helping raise awareness of the recycling pathway available for these materials. In return, we're proud to promote Watergate Plus and tapes alongside our betterBRACE external bracing system.

The circular economy doesn't happen because products are recyclable. It happens when businesses collaborate to make sure those materials actually get collected, processed, and turned into something useful again. Saying something is theoretically '𝗿𝗲𝗰𝘆𝗰𝗹𝗮𝗯𝗹𝗲' is not a solution, you need demand to pull through so that material otherwise it ends up in landfill.

Next time you're walking around a construction site, keep an eye out for the saveBOARD logo on a roll of Watergate Plus. There's a good chance the offcuts from that very product could end up back on a building site.

𝗛𝗼𝘄 𝘁𝗼 𝗴𝗲𝘁 𝗰𝗼𝗻𝗳𝘂𝘀𝗲𝗱 𝗶𝗻 𝗮𝗻 𝗮𝗶𝗿𝗽𝗼𝗿𝘁 𝘁𝗲𝗿𝗺𝗶𝗻𝗮𝗹 🛍️♻️

Last week I was flying Sydney → Melbourne out of Terminal 2 domestic. I haven’t flown from there in a while, and I’ll admit I got a bit confused when I talked to one of the customer service staff. I found out there’s not one, but Four RELAY stores in the same terminal.

At first it seems like a lot. Most people are on a mission to their gate, so they don’t get to explore the full terminal, whereas I had the time to walk from one end to the other to find all the stores.

Here’s the journey most people walk past every day without realising:
🔁 The food & beverage cartons you returned at a container deposit scheme in Australia are in those walls.
♻️ The soft plastics you dropped at the supermarket collection bin? Also in those walls.
🏭 Heat. Pressure. Composite panels cut to length, ready to build.
🔄 And anything left over? Straight back into the process. Circles beyond circles.

Most of us never connect what we put in recycling bins to the circular economy.
Next time you’re rushing to your gate, take a second look at what’s around you. You might just be standing inside something you helped build. 🌏

If you’ve ever wondered what to do with used Courier bags, there is a solution. Since 2022 in partnership between NZ Couriers Enviro360 programme and saveBOARD those used courier packs don’t need to end up in landfill.

Any business can be part of the scheme; businesses effectively buy prepaid bags that you can fill.

♻️ Once you fill the Enviro360 bags they come to saveBOARD
♻️ The courier packs, labels and all get shredded and mixed with food & beverage cartons
♻️ The soft plastics is our glue that helps make our building products used across New Zealand and Australia

The reality is, recycling only works when there’s an end market for the material collected. Partnerships like this help create a genuine demand-driven solution, where waste is collected, processed, and turned back into something useful.

Together with Milliken we have developed Renasci™ which is a resilient flooring plank that turns end-of-life synthetic carpet and soft plastics into something beautiful.

Made from 80% reclaimed synthetic carpet and 20% consumer soft plastics, it performs in the highest-traffic commercial interiors without any chemicals or adhesives added using the saveBOARD process.

Carpet waste goes in, combined with soft plastics create these stunning floors now in 3x different colours. In the future when the floor eventually reaches end-of-life? It can come back to our saveBOARD plant to be remanufactured into new tiles.

𝗟𝗶𝗰𝗲𝗻𝘀𝗲 𝘁𝗼 𝗢𝗽𝗲𝗿𝗮𝘁𝗲, 𝘄𝗵𝗮𝘁 𝗱𝗼𝗲𝘀 𝗶𝘁 𝗿𝗲𝗮𝗹𝗹𝘆 𝗺𝗲𝗮𝗻?

We're not a big company, but we do believe that we have a responsibility to contribute where they can. In our view its an extension of the circular economy.

One of the ways we try to live that out is through supporting organisations like Habitat for Humanity..

We aren't in a position to provide cash, but what we can do is donate what we make every day: saveBOARD building materials. Whether it's repairs, maintenance, or helping create homes for people who need them most, it feels good to know our product is going somewhere meaningful.

This photo's not from the latest collection (we completely forgot to grab one when they picked up earlier this month), however it still represent product going to those who need it most.

The building industry is doing it tough right now. A lot of families are too. Not every business is in a position to give back, and that's okay and we get it. However if we can, we will.

Like your first day at school, it was time to show our new saveBOARD 2Faced product its new home.

This programme is operated by industry body, The Packaging Forum, and has been providing Kiwis with the opportunity to recycle their household soft plastic material at supermarkets and stores for more than 10 years.

𝟑𝟓 𝐭𝐨𝐧𝐧𝐞𝐬 𝐨𝐟 𝐐𝐮𝐞𝐞𝐧𝐬𝐥𝐚𝐧𝐝’𝐬 𝐟𝐢𝐧𝐞𝐬𝐭 𝐜𝐚𝐫𝐭𝐨𝐧𝐬.

Paul was in our Sydney factory this week when this truck rolled in from Containers for Change QLD (COEX) loaded with used food and beverage cartons. Two bales wide x Two high x Bdouble truck and trailer.

It’s hard to comprehend the scale until you break it down. Each carton weighs about 10 grams. That means this single delivery contained around 3.5 million cartons ready to be transformed into wall linings, ceiling tiles, and construction hoardings used across Australia.

The challenge isn’t feedstock anymore. The cartons are there. The recycling systems are there. Our manufacturing process works.

Getting more architects, builders, companies and consumers to actually specify, purchase and use circular products instead of defaulting to conventional materials.

Because every time someone chooses a saveBOARD product, it helps pull millions more cartons and soft plastics through the system and saves virgin materials from being extracted from our environment.
