🏡 Thinking About Renovating? Read This First
Before you start knocking down walls. Here are the top 5 things every homeowner should consider to avoid stress, delays, and blown budgets.

🔨 1. Set a Realistic Budget
Renovations often uncover hidden surprises — especially in older NZ homes. Always allow a 10–20% buffer.

📝 2. Check if You Need Council Consent
Anything structural, plumbing, electrical, or weather‑tightness related may require approval.

đź‘· 3. Choose the Right Builder
Experience matters. Look for licensed builders with proven work and solid communication. - Look at their past work or speak to anyone who has used them before.

đź“‹ 4. Define Your Scope Clearly
Know what’s essential vs. optional so your project stays on track and on budget.

🏠 5. Plan for the Disruption
Renovations can mean noise, dust, and limited access to parts of your home. A little planning goes a long way.

Ending my day here makes the tough days worthwhile. Having a place to relax and unwind is beneficial for my mental and physical health and helps me perform my best on the worksite. The surf wasn’t up, but the paddle was worth it.

Before, during, and after the front of the house transformation, it was all about out with the old and in with a fresh, new look. The old front door was relocated, giving us the chance to create more storage space inside—because who doesn’t need extra storage?

Wishing everyone a happy weekend and safe travels in this crazy weather!

Bird’s-eye view of a renovation done by our team—this was an extension to an existing house. You can see the size of the roof that was added on. With this addition, we created a master bedroom, ensuite bathroom, double car garage, and the main entrance. Below are some shots during the build and after completion. Thinking about getting a reno? Avoid a cold, damp home this winter and reduce mould by keeping your space warm and dry with these 5 simple tips to cut down on moisture!

1. Morning ventilation – Even on chilly mornings, don’t keep the house sealed. A quick 10‑minute air flush each day can halve condensation, even in a New Zealand winter.
2. Bathroom moisture – Foggy mirrors mean trapped moisture. Run your extractor fan during showers and for 10 minutes afterward.
3. Drying clothes – Indoor drying can add up to 5 litres of moisture to your home. Dry outside when possible or use a vented dryer.
4. Gutters and downpipes – Winter rain plus blocked gutters equals leaks, damp framing, and mould. A fast clean now avoids costly repairs later.
5. Furniture placement – Beds or couches against external walls can trap mould behind them. Pull furniture out 5–10 cm to allow airflow.
