A huge congratulations to Jezz Bayate. In April, Jezz won the Regional Certified Builders Apprentice of the Year (Practical) in Nelson, and now he’s heading to Auckland to take on 14 other apprentices from around the country at the 2026 NZCB Apprentice Challenge National Final. What an incredible achievement.

Jezz has been a fantastic addition to the Coman team over the past three years through Tech 5 Recruitment and we’re all behind him as he takes on this next challenge. Wishing you the very best of luck, Jezz.

The accolades are rolling in for our new Port Tarakohe Management and Amenities Building. It recently won a section in the Resene Total Colour Awards, receiving top place in the Total Colour Neutrals Tone e Award.

This award recognises not only the design outcome but also the collective effort behind it. The judges commented that the project was shaped by a wide and dedicated team whose cultural insight, technical expertise and creative skill helped bring the vision to life.

The design was shaped through collaboration with Manawhenua ki Mohua (Ngāti Tama, Ngāti Rārua, Te Ātiawa) and local Māori artist Robin Slow.

The cultural motifs and manifestation designs draw on kōrero, stories and artwork shared during the project, connecting the building to the whakapapa of Mohua.

It has also won a spot on the shortlist of public architecture projects for the 2026 Nelson and Marlborough Architecture Awards, where our Queen Street parklet has also been shortlisted in the small project section. These awards are due to be announced on 8 May – winners of these awards will go forward to the National Awards.
.. and finally, alongside Coman Construction & Property Solutions, and project managers BPM Ltd, our Tarakohe building has also been named a finalist in the RCP Commercial Office Property Award at the Property Council New Zealand Rider Levett Bucknall Property Industry Awards 2026. These awards will be presented on 12 June.
