Plimmerton Farms 🚧

The GOOD work continues on the Plimmerton Farms job! The photos are from the end of March but the 637s are running dirt flat out this month. Peat undercuts and ground improvements continue.

More SRP are being constructed and major culverts carry on.

It is with deep sadness that we share the passing of Marcello Giacon.

Marcello was a true cornerstone of the Goodmans transport team for over 15 years. Happy on the road, taking the difficult shifts in his stride and never complaining about the long shifts that needed to be done.

He was the ultimate professional. An intelligent, funny, diligent, reliable worker and, more than that, a genuinely good friend to so many of us here. He will be greatly missed.

Our love and prayers are with his family during this incredibly difficult time.

Fly high, mate. πŸ•ŠοΈ

Funeral Details are:

Date: Tuesday 24th March
Time: 11am
Where: Our Lady of Kapiti Parish,
1 Presentation way,
Paraparaumu.

Following the service, there will be light refreshments at the parish hall. Marcello will then be traveling his final journey to Awa Tapu Crematorium for a private cremation.

Family and friends then gather at the Kapiti dive club after 1:30pm.

Truck Convoy information still to come.

Checkout what our Workshop has been up to! πŸ”§

222G β€” Looking great after a tough stint in a lime quarry. In for a quick trans swap before heading straight back out.

JCB All Terrain β€” Had a birthday with a full front end overhaul. Nearly ready for its next mission.

Hyundai Wheeled Excavator β€” Freshly rebuilt cab ready to go. Keeping a spare cab in stock means fast turnarounds and less downtime when it's time to freshen a machine up.

D6R LGP β€” In for an undercarriage tidy up with fresh chains and grousers, plus swamp/apex shoes fitted for the boggy winter conditions ahead.

14M Grader β€” Well-earned midlife rebuild underway. Turning circles, cab, bushes and tandems all getting attention β€” not much left on the chassis! Our team will have this looking and running better than new over the coming months.

740 β€” Major midlife work underway before heading back into action real soon.

Great work from the whole Workshop team! πŸ’ͺ

Throwback to 1986 Kakahi railway slip remediation 🚧

This was a crucial project for us, coming right as the earthworks for electrifying the central North Island railway were nearing completion. The job kept us busy for a couple of summers.

The ground conditions presented real challenges, especially since our machines were only 2WD and showing their age. Meanwhile, new technology was advancing rapidly throughout the industry, making our aging fleet feel even more outdated.

Watercart Maintenance Update πŸ”§

MDT30 Moxy Watercart
Built by Goodmans on existing chassis with 25,000L tank. Features rear dribble bar, top-mounted water cannon, and hydraulically-driven rear pump controlled from driver's seat. Just completed winter check-over with minor repairs - ready for another busy season!

Cat 740A Watercart
Built by Goodmans in 2023 using existing tipper chassis with 32,000L tank from Australia. Currently at Waikanae workshops where we've split the chassis at articulation point for major repairs. Front end stripped down (cab, engine, transmission, drop box removed) for full access to wiring and hydraulics. Engine, transmission and drop box resealed and thoroughly checked before paint.

Cat 740 Watercart
Our purpose-built workhorse from 2016 - served loyally on many big projects. Recent concerning oil samples prompted deeper investigation. Timing cover leaks, front final drive and diff all addressed, plus rear bumper and spray bar re-engineering underway.

Watercarts are essential for summer dust control, soil compaction watering, and ground material prep on our projects.

Excellent work by the team! πŸ‘
