Cyclone Vaianu is setting up to roar across the North Island. Strong winds and heavy rain could cause power outages. Due to the winds it may take a while to get reconnected. If you do experience an outage, call Toast's outage hotline on 0800 688 243. It could be busy so stay on the line 😀

This week, Toast has signed up our 3,000th customer 🌟

3,000 customers. In barely 3 years. What a milestone!

For a small company with limited coverage, that number means something. It tells us there's a real appetite in Aotearoa for a different approach - one where everyone can access essential services, and nobody has to choose between heating and eating.

Toast is powered by people, for people. Together, we've donated over 500,000kWh of energy and completed home assessments for more than 400 households. None of that happens without you.

To everyone who's joined the Toast movement - thank you. With your support, we'll keep working toward a future without energy hardship 💗

Wow. 2025 has been a massive year for us.

We began the year powering 805 homes and we've more than tripled that number - up to 2,650! For a small team like us, that's a big leap.

Not only were we lucky to be nominated at this year's Wellington Gold Awards, we also then went on to 🏆 win 🏆 the People's Choice Award at this year's 2degrees Wellington Regional Business Excellence Awards, hosted by Hutt Valley Chamber of Commerce.

We're incredibly grateful to all of our customers, supporters, fans, friends and whānau for helping us to reach this milestone. Toast is powered by people, for people - thank you for sticking with us and being a crucial part of the Toast movement. We're laser-focused on our goal of ending energy hardship in Aotearoa and every bit of your support truly counts.

From all of us - thank you for making this year so wonderful and we hope you all have a safe, joyful and restful holiday season. We're signing off on the 24th December and will be back online on the 5th January.🎄

We had an electrifying⚡️time talking about saving energy, electrifying your whare, and Toast's mission to end energy hardship.

We also quizzed attendees with some tricky questions about energy. Congratulations to John for getting the most correct answers and winning a 4kg pail of Fix and Fogg peanut butter — and good job to everyone who had a go!

Toast Electric, launched in 2022, is Aotearoa’s only not-for-profit electricity retailer, using a 4:1 giving model to fight energy poverty.
For every four paying customers, one household in need gets support, with 200,000 kWh donated in the last year.
“Hearing from families who no longer have to choose between heating and eating reminds us why this work matters,” says Fair Energy Manager Phil Squire (pictured).

With 56% customer growth in the past year and $2 million annual recurring revenue, Toast reinvests all profits into programmes that improve home energy efficiency and well-being.
Their model not only helps vulnerable households but also supports local businesses and reduces healthcare costs, with ambitious plans to double their customer base and expand regionally in 2025.

We're sad to see another smaller retailer exit the market. A great Wellington business that's done a lot to shake up the electricity world.
