Choice was thrilled to host NAWIC members for a site visit to the Boulcott Hospital extension and refurbishment project, alongside CCM Architects and Rubix

The project features two brand-new operating theatres, an expanded and upgraded Post Anaesthesia Care Unit, and a modern kitchen designed to support enhanced services. It’s all about boosting surgical capacity, improving patient recovery spaces, and upgrading essential service infrastructure to meet growing healthcare demands

We’re proud to highlight the strong female leadership across the project team. It was a pleasure to have our female leaders host the visit and share their insights and experiences with an engaged and enthusiastic audience.

Ngā mihi nui me te arohanui to the entire project team and contractors who, despite working hard to reach Practical Completion in the coming weeks, took the time to share their knowledge and expertise.

Supporting the Cause: NAWIC Pink Ribbon Breakfast

Breast cancer touches the lives of many—whether it's through loved ones, colleagues, or personal experience. On Friday, 23rd May, our Director and Senior Quantity Surveyor, Alice Carmody, proudly represented Choice Construction Group at the NAWIC Pink Ribbon Breakfast, as Chief Bingo Caller and Auctioneer. NAWIC raised over $800 to pledge to the cause.

This powerful event is part of a nationwide initiative raising essential awareness and funding for the Breast Cancer Foundation NZ. Every contribution helps fuel life-saving research, patient support programs, and vital education about breast health and early detection.

The best prevention is early detection -That’s why we’re proud to have delivered new breast screening facilities in the Wellington and Wairarapa region, helping improve access to early detection and care. We're dedicated to building healthier, stronger communities.

Throwback Thursday | Hutt Hospital Surgical Suites

Two years on, we’re proud to reflect on a milestone project that continues to make a lasting impact. Delivered in partnership with Te Whatu Ora – Capital, Coast and Hutt Valley, the new surgical suite at Hutt Hospital was officially opened on April 3rd, 2023.

This purpose-built facility, located on Level 2 of the Clock Tower above the plastic surgery outpatient department, features five dedicated procedure rooms.
Designed to support minor surgeries—such as the removal of skin cancers, fibroids, and cataracts—it was built to facilitate over 500 procedures in its first year.

At Choice Construction, we’re committed to challenging conventional methods and delivering spaces that improve outcomes for patients and communities alike. It’s a privilege to support our healthcare system with infrastructure that directly reduces wait times and enhances patient care.

🧏‍♂️ Celebrating NZ Sign Language Week | May 5–11 🧏‍♀️

We’re proud to support New Zealand Sign Language (NZSL) Week 2025, an important time to raise awareness and champion inclusivity in our communities.
NZSL has been an official language of Aotearoa since 2006, alongside English and te reo Māori. It plays a vital role in ensuring accessibility in education, workplaces, healthcare, and everyday life for the Deaf community.

While there’s no official sign for the word “Choice”, the closest NZSL signs are “choose” or “congratulate” – fitting for a company that believes in celebrating people and possibilities.

This week is more than recognition – it’s a reminder of the power of communication to connect, advocate, and support. From art competitions to a special Coffee Taster with Starbucks on May 6, events across the country are shining a light on the richness of NZSL.

🌏 At Choice, we stand for inclusion, innovation, and change – values that align strongly with the goals of NZSL Week.

Let’s celebrate a language that helps make our world more inclusive.

🦺 World Day for Safety and Health at Work 2025 🛠️

At Choice Construction Group, getting home safe is not just a goal — it’s our everyday priority.

Toolbox meetings are a great way to emphasise safety expectations and get everyone on site involved. They can be brief – a quick stand-up meeting is perfect, especially if you add some chocolate biscuits to make it more enjoyable!

Shout out to our Site Managers who keep the toolbox topics interesting and on point with the on-site activities. Simple sessions, like demonstrating how to correctly tie on tools for overhead work and the safe use of fire extinguishers, have boosted apprentices' confidence and set them up with good habits.

That’s why we do these at least once a week to keep safety top of mind and relevant for everyone.

Let’s continue to protect what matters most — our people.

🌍 Celebrating Earth Day at Choice Construction – Building a Greener Future

Sustainability isn't just a value—at Choice Construction Group, it’s part of our everyday practice. This Earth Day, we’re proud to reflect on the small yet powerful steps we’ve taken that are making a lasting impact.

At our head office, our team has embraced composting and recycling with impressive results:

♻️ Composting: Diverting approx. 130kgs of organic waste from landfill each year—yes, even more when coffee consumption spikes during tender time!

🥫 Recycling: Over 1,200 cans and 250 plastic bottles are given a
second life annually.

💡 The cost? Just a few bins and 10 minutes a week from a dedicated team member.

It’s proof that change doesn’t have to be monumental to be meaningful. These initiatives embody our core purpose: to challenge, innovate, and change how construction is delivered.

By embedding sustainable practices into our workplace culture, we’re not just building for today—we’re laying the foundation for a healthier, more resilient tomorrow.

🚨 High-Stakes Construction: Building Beside Live Theatres at Boulcott Hospital

At Choice Construction Group, complexity is part of the job—but constructing new healthcare spaces immediately adjacent to active operating theatres takes it to another level, demanding meticulous planning to minimise risk and ensure construction is as impactless as possible.

Delivering this work at Boulcott Hospital requires not only technical precision and innovative planning but also constant collaboration with hospital managers to ensure minimal disruption to essential services.

📍 Project Highlights:
OR5: Painting and vinyl now complete, with 2nd fix services underway.
OR4: Ceiling painting completed; services 2nd fix in progress.
Recovery: High-quality finish achieved—on track for handover on 11 April 2025.

From AI to Advanced 3D Scanning — Here’s What’s Shaping Construction

We recently had the opportunity to attend the DigiComm Conference in Auckland, and we’re excited to share a few highlights with you!

From AI and digital twin technology to 3D scanning and Just-In-Time fabrication, we saw how innovation is transforming the way we design, build, and manage projects. These technologies are already making construction safer, more efficient, and more sustainable—core values we live by at Choice.

The 'Next Gen' sessions were a standout for us, with emerging talent bringing fresh ideas and bridging the gap between generations. The energy, collaboration, and forward thinking in those sessions were truly inspiring.

And yes—we met the incredible Petra Bagust (yes, we got the selfies!). We also connected with some amazing people across the industry, powered by buckets of coffee and more cookies than we care to admit.

It was a fantastic few days, and we’re proud to be part of a community that’s not just keeping up with change—but driving it. Let’s keep challenging, innovating, and building a better future together.
