This repair was completed by us in 2023. What was there before, the damage that repair caused, then our process.

Multiple others tried and failed to keep this small area water tight. Even after a full re-roof, the photos show the before quality, and ours following.

A few days following the worst flooding wellington has suffered in decades in 2026, these clients reached out with this feedback.

“Jay, In times of high rainfall and strong winds ( like over the past few days), Lyn and I are very grateful for the outstanding work you did in identifying the ‘leaking roof’ problem in our house, with water dripping into our bedroom. Previous attempts to fix the problem had been unsuccessful. Your professionalism and building skills are a great credit to you. We also were very grateful for your skilled work in replacing rotten beams in our carport”.

Craftsmanship proven, real world results delivered. Thanks Roger and Lyn, it was our pleasure.

Rough in all done. Now for the finicky stuff.

Now we’re adding niches and PTO drawers to steal wasted space in the garage to make use of this narrow area. With that little addition we need to rip more linings off below the windows to secure new structure in to allow for the weight of the drawers when I build them.

I love a design and build jobbie. It takes up nearly 100% of your mental capacity and you end up dreaming of work to nut out the complexities, but it’s rad to see what you can come up with and then designing the supports and structures needed.

Will be a big punt next week with jobs stacking up and weather closing in.

Nice little gap filler installing some of Crown Joinery’s windows while the weathers playing nice for once. 4 new windows, 2 retro fit French doors and euro hardware.
Great to get the next gen into some of this work to set the standard and see the growth.

We’re very picky with our window installs. We’ve spent a lot of time developing our system in conjunction with the building code to ensure the install matches the joinery quality.
Understanding how moisture works, condensation within frames and airflow is critical.
Deep flashings, airflow gaps between sill hoof and flashing, drain ports in the underbead, back to wall flashings and tight scribers all go hand in hand.
If one area is weak you compromise the joinery and the building.

Job done, onto the next.

Almost finished! 😮‍💨😮‍💨 what an absolute pump this year to get it back on track. Only a few minor details left to complete and it is done.

It’s had its highs and lows, just like any building project but more than anything it’s been one of the biggest self appointed tests to date. It’s truly pushed me to my limit, we’ve sacrificed a lot of life and savings to get this done.
Totally worth it, nothing good comes easy or cheap.

Closing features incoming!.
Big push getting this monster completed.

Balustrade on the cards in the design shop, just abit more cladding to go, pavers, final accesses and a few odds and ends and it’s done.

These bits take their time and their toll. But it’s worth it in the end.

Nearly done! Then beer time 😮‍💨

Quick simple one over the Xmas break for a local medical centre.
There’s always something new to learn on every job, this one’s been no exception. Retro fitting new hardware and fronts to existing carcasses that are way out of square isn’t something I have to do very often. For very good reason…it’s a pain, a real pain. But for a fraction of the price of a full new kitchen I’m happy to help out our community save abit of money to invest elsewhere.

The bonus of working with the Lamello has been a huge game changer. There’s a few things I’ll do differently next time around. Overall it’s a very rad system which opens the doors to a much cleaner approach to building cabinetry that can be pulled apart without any loss to the integrity of the panels.

Weekend mahi done, onto making some jigs for the next weather rotation. 🤙🏻🤙🏻

2 years worth of planning, setout, trigonometry, changes to allow for better flow, engineering requirements, endless thought and only then did the work start. We are only 1/3 complete at this stage, there’s still a mountain of work to complete.

With a hardened building market here at the moment it’s tricky to dedicate too much time to live as the business needs fuel to survive. Every second on the deck, every half day, every after work stint gets us that closer to the finish.

There’s still abit of nutting out with each level, so we’ve not outa the woods yet, but I am enjoying having an open design….although it has its headaches.
Stay tuned…full reveal most likely 2027 🤣🤣

Great little job in Karori.

Here we have a beautiful 60’s style bungalow with a late 90’s extension slapped on to gain a seperate storage area.

We knew we had some work to do sub-floor wise by the dampness and wet feeling the room had even after a streak of nice weather.

Once we opened it up, we found another DIY attempt in 2017 which made the original worse. Open voids in the concrete, using the wrong insulation, not having enough ventilation and generally just poor construction knowledge, this room was destined to fail to be an uncomfortable space.

As always, we worked our magic, and have provided our clients with what is now the best room in the house.
500k reno, 50k reno, it’s all the same to us. The passion and commitment doesn’t change.

A nice little project inbetween the other bits and bobs we’ve been up to.
Abit of downtime coming up so hopefully the weather plays ball to let me lay the decking on the forever growing home project.

Our most recently completed renovation on the hills overlooking Karori.
A rough 80’s interior remodelled to suit a more efficient lifestyle, light, bright with updated features and products to bring a whole new feel to this home.

As always we saw opportunities to upgrade products and change layouts to suit a better flow. The soft close/open cavity sliders are unbeatable. 100% worth the upgrade in cost knowing the doors aren’t a slamming fest.

Also a great experience to work with uPVC tilt/open windows. That’s a first for us and has left a lasting impression on these style of joinery available.

These clients have been awesome to work for. We’re looking forward to stage 2 down the track to finish the rest off.

We put our heart and soul into our work and it shows.

Thanks to all those involved:

Nice lil window install smashed out for the end of the week in between our major renovation in Karori.
A huge shout out to Sydney Bouvet carpentry services () for giving us a hand to get this in before the rain arrives.
The help and yarns are greatly appreciated 🤙🏻

Despite what you may think, a lot goes into installing joinery correctly. And it can bite you in the ass if you don’t know what you’re doing.

There’s a tonne of slap it in companies out there that go for speed and cutting corners to either maximise their profits by offering cheaper work, or they do the bare minimum and rely on silicon to cover their asses. You know this, you’ve seen some of their work around Wellington.

We go the extra mile to ensure weather-tightness and the finished look are high quality. With over a decade of experience working with the best in the business we have developed various building systems, drainage systems, rebates systems and flashing details to exceed the minimum standards and make the look great and function effortlessly.
By allowing airflow, drain ports and critical seals/upturns we give our customers that peace of mind that any moisture is dealt with.

Installing joinery is a great way for up and comers to really fine tune their craft, patience and stress management.
It is one of the only jobs in carpentry where sometimes when you screw something up, it’s not an easy fix and it happens quickly.
Just step it up and take ownership and fix it. You learn from it. But you cut that corner and say it’ll be all good bu**er it let’s just get it in, then you’re racing to the bottom.

Great end to the week, window looks mint, features all line up. Happy team 🤙🏻🤙🏻
