From 1–3 July, Fraunhofer Portugal AICOS took part in the 4th World Conference on eXplainable Artificial Intelligence (XAI 2025), held in Fortaleza, Brazil.

Our researcher Duarte Folgado presented the paper "Semantic Concept-Augmented Learning and Post-Hoc Analysis for Time Series Classification", developed in collaboration with Matilde Silva, André Carreiro, and Leander Weber (Fraunhofer HHI).

The work explores how introducing human-understandable semantic concepts—such as rising, falling, plateau, and peaks—into deep learning models can make time series classification more interpretable without compromising predictive performance. It also bridges post-hoc explainability methods with the language humans naturally use to describe patterns, contributing to more transparent and trustworthy AI.

Congratulations to Duarte and all the co-authors on this contribution to the field of Explainable AI!
