There is something special about inland Portugal.

The light.
The scent of the earth.
The sound of the wind in the trees.
The feeling of space and freedom.

As cities continue to grow denser, faster, and more crowded, a new demand is emerging: smaller, more sustainable homes that are more connected to nature.

In this project, we envisioned a contemporary retreat nestled within the natural landscape of the Viseu region.

An architecture that is discreet and integrated into the terrain.
Where the interior extends the exterior and nature becomes part of daily life.

Here, luxury lies in the sensation.
In breakfast in the sun.
In the possibility of working surrounded by greenery.
In the calm of a late afternoon by the fire.
In the constant connection with the outdoors.

At ARTSPAZIOS, we see enormous potential in the interior of Portugal.
Authentic places, still largely unexplored, where architecture can create deeply human experiences.

Light is one of the most powerful materials in architecture.

It guides the eye.
It reveals texture.
It gives depth to matter.
It creates atmosphere before a single word is spoken.

In a restaurant, light must respond to rhythm and function.
A cooler white light brings clarity to the kitchen.
Warmer tones create intimacy in the dining room.
Suspended lights above the pass highlight the final moment before service, where finished dishes wait at the right temperature, under the right light, ready to reach the table.

In a mirror, light can become a frame.
It softens the reflection, adds depth and turns a functional element into a moment of pause.

On a staircase, light becomes movement.
It guides the body through the space, drawing each step with subtlety and intention.

Behind stone, light reveals what is usually hidden.
It shows transparency, texture and the quiet power of matter.

For us, lighting is never an afterthought.
It is a way of composing atmosphere, shaping perception and giving emotion to architecture.

In collaboration with , we continue to integrate lighting solutions that shape the way each space is seen, used and felt.

This renovation was designed to let the house rise gently with the landscape.

In this project, the upper floor was designed as a quieter, more intimate extension of the home. The stairs become part of that journey, a soft transition from the shared spaces below to a more private atmosphere above, where everything feels calmer, warmer, and more sheltered.

At the top, each space was shaped to bring comfort through material and light. The bedroom is wrapped in natural textures and earthy tones, creating a sense of stillness and rest. Timber, soft textiles, warm light, and textured surfaces work together to make the space feel grounded, cozy, and deeply relaxing.

The bathroom follows the same language. Calm, understated, and tactile. A place where natural materials and soft tones create a quiet sense of wellbeing, turning everyday routines into slower, more restorative moments.

Throughout these spaces, the intention was not only aesthetic. It was about creating continuity — between floors, between functions, between the house and the feeling of living in it. A home where each room belongs to the next, and where every detail helps build an atmosphere of calm.

A warm retreat, shaped by natural materials, gentle light, and spaces designed to slow life down.
