Notice of Board Meeting Reschedule
Due to the extreme amount of snow, the Town of Alfordsville has rescheduled the board meeting to February 9th at 7:00 PM. We hope this will allow time for road conditions to improve and for the snow to melt.

❄️ Cold Weather Reminder – Alfordsville Water Customers ❄️
With freezing temperatures expected, please take a few steps now to protect your water lines and avoid damage.
💧 How to prevent water lines from freezing:
Let a small stream of water drip from faucets during extreme cold
Open cabinet doors under sinks to allow warm air to circulate
Make sure crawl spaces and basements are sealed
Disconnect and drain outdoor hoses
Insulate exposed pipes if possible
🚨 If your water line freezes:
Use gentle heat only (hair dryer or space heater at a safe distance)
Never use an open flame
If you cannot safely thaw the line, contact a licensed plumber
🚰 If you suspect or see a water leak:
Shut off your main water valve immediately if possible
Contact a plumber for repairs on the customer side of the meter
If the leak appears to be on the meter or street side, contact Alfordsville Water right away

We have negative temperatures on the way, and we want to help you prevent frozen water lines and costly repairs.

Here’s how to protect your home or vacant property:

🔹 Let faucets drip—especially on exterior walls.
🔹 Open cabinet doors under sinks to allow warm air to circulate.
🔹 Keep heat on in buildings, even if it's set low.
🔹 Insulate exposed pipes in unheated areas (crawlspaces, basements, garages).
🔹 Know your shut-off valve location in case a pipe bursts.

🏚️ If you have a vacant property:
✔️ Turn the water off at the main.
✔️ If the building has a water heater, be sure to turn it off too—this prevents the elements from burning up if the tank empties or freezes.

As temperatures rise, frozen pipes are prone to bursting.

Procedure for burst pipes:
- Immediately shut off the main water supply.
- Turn off the hot water heater.

Contact Alfordsville Water to request emergency water shutoff or report a leak.

Portersville customers may experience a temporary water service interruption while we repair a water leak.

The proposed expansion of the Washington Carnegie Public Library into most of southern Daviess County was turned down unanimously by the Daviess County Commissioners at their Commissioners meeting this week.
