Think you know a thing or two about plumbing? 🤔🧐
There are plenty of common plumbing myths that homeowners have believed for years, and we’re here to set the record straight!
From what you should (and shouldn’t!) put down your drains, to those little plumbing problems that don’t seem like a big deal, some of these might surprise you! 👀
Let’s separate fact from fiction! ⬇️
🚽 MYTH #1: “Flushable” wipes are safe to flush.
❌ BUSTED! Despite what the packaging says “flushable”, wipes don’t break down like toilet paper. They can build up in your pipes and cause some pretty nasty clogs!
💧 MYTH #2: A dripping faucet isn’t a big deal.
❌ BUSTED! A faucet dripping just once per second can waste more than 3,000 gallons of water in a year! That’s a LOT of wasted water from something that seems so small!
🍋 MYTH #3: Putting lemons down your garbage disposal cleans it.
❌ BUSTED! While lemons might make your kitchen smell fresh, they aren’t a substitute for properly cleaning your disposal. Citrus peels can also contribute to clogs, especially if you’re putting large pieces down!
🚰 MYTH #4: If water is draining, your pipes must be fine.
❌ BUSTED! Just because water is going down doesn’t mean everything is working perfectly! Grease, soap residue, and other debris can slowly build up inside your pipes before you ever notice a problem.
🔥 MYTH #5: Pouring boiling water down your drain will clear any clog.
❌ BUSTED! Boiling water isn’t a guaranteed fix for clogs, and repeated exposure to extreme heat can potentially damage certain pipes or plumbing connections. Some blockages require a little more than hot water!
🔧 MYTH #6: A small leak can wait until later.
❌ BUSTED! Even a small leak can lead to wasted water, higher utility bills, and potential water damage over time. Catching plumbing problems early can save you a much bigger headache down the road!
