Position Overview: Operates and performs routine maintenance on spiral winding machines that automatically wind round tubes for a broad range of industrial and commercial applications.
Essential Job Functions
• Retrieves and loads paper on reel stands, frequently required to lift up to 60lbs.
• Perform machine set-up:
o Will need to change glue; including retrieving, mixing and testing
o Will need to retrieve, change and/or install a new belt for round winding
o Will need to retrieve, change and/or install a new mandrel, bushings, slit and wind blade set up.
o Will need to adjust glue pot for spreading a lighter or heavier application
o Will need to change and/or adjust the tension devices to accommodate changes in ribbon strip widths
• Threads the ribbons of paper under the winding belt and around the mandrel
• Adjusts the finger to give proper spacing and butting of seams
• Adjusts ribbon tension with required devices
• Adjusts the cut-off equipment to achieve correct cut-off length
• May need to run multiple glue pots.
• Install and set-up and use heaters (contact, air and infrared, etc.)
• Set-up and use lubrication pots.
• Bring and hold winding machine at required speed where and while good quality can be maintained
It has always been the duty of each operator to check their own work at the time of the set-up and during the time the job is running. They are responsible for the tubes they wind and all the corresponding documentation, verifications, inspections and production rates.
Other Job Functions
• Reads work orders and specifications to determine materials and set-up required to manufacture applicable part
• Retrieves a supply of required boxes and/or carts for finished products
• Is able to inspect all dimensions and request 2nd inspection as required
• Moves filled cases and/or carts to shipping or secondary processes as required
• Keeps work area and equipment clean and organized according to 5S principles

• Inside diameter (ID) of tube and specified mandrel
• Outside diameter (OD)
• Construction: number and types (material and color) of plies
• Gluing and bonding of plies
• Length
• Wall
