Two things can be true at the same time.
B The Light Mission is not a walk-in emergency homeless shelter. Our primary mission is a structured 15-month residential program for men and women who are committed to making lasting life changes.
At the same time, during extreme weather events, we open our doors to help protect members of our community.
During dangerously cold weather, we operate as a warming shelter, often for extended periods to provide a safe place for those at risk from freezing temperatures.
During extreme heat, we operate as a cooling station, where anyone can come in, cool off, enjoy some air conditioning, have a drink of water, rest for a while, and then continue with their day.
These are two different services with two different purposes.
When Washington County Emergency Management announces the need for warming shelters or cooling stations, we are honored to partner with them in serving our community. Outside of these emergency weather situations, our focus remains our 15-month residential program, helping individuals build a path toward lasting independence.
We hope this helps clarify our role and how we serve our community. Thank you for allowing us to be part of caring for Bartlesville.
