Hyundai Veloster R head cleaned up and ready for machine work. This was actually a new casting from Hyundai but it is still going through our standard process to make sure nothing is missed and our quality standard is met. These heads were co-developed with Mitsubishi and are very similar to the 4B11-T.

Audi AAN 5 cylinder head complete for a ‘93 S4. This head was ROUGH at the outset. Besides being covered in peeling black paint and needing all the standard rebuild items, it also had chamber damage from debris, cam journal damage, and a pair of horribly repaired exhaust manifold stud holes. Add in a pocket port and there are a lotta hours in this one 😳. Very happy with the final result; 7A cams, full Supertech valvetrain, fancy seat profiles, and the port work means she’ll be a ripper.

Another multi caption post to follow yesterday’s. Customer for whom I built a 944 Turbo head a few years back needed the left engine mount arm modified for a Himni Racing T to GT series adapter. The adapter has an o-ring groove that had nowhere to seal against on the factory arm. I turned up a nice chamfered plug on the lathe that was a light press fit into the original oil hole. The plug was a clean way of shrinking the ID to what was required by the adapter.

After a few passes on the mill.

Not the simplest part to mount and square up. Took some tomfoolery.

Finished result.

Perfect surface for the adapter’s o-ring to seal against.

Bear with me through multiple captions and I’ll show a little example of resourcefulness (or how to be a cheapskate 😂).

Anyway, I’m flipping this E30 and I was installing new control arms when the front sway bar bracket snapped thanks to our northeast friend, rust. These brackets are $50 each and I didn’t feel like waiting so I chose to use expensive tools and machines and a few hours of my time to work around the issue. Does the cost/benefit ratio actually work in my favor? Probably not. But it was fun and there is satisfaction in saving something that would be normally thrown away.



After trying a few different methods of removing the stud, I realized it was spot welded from underneath in 3 locations. This fact was originally disguised by the rust pitting. Knowing that, I put it in the mill and milled out the spot welds.

Once all three welds were milled, the stud came right out. Victory!

Going to use this M10x1.5 bolt to replicate the original.

Some time in the lathe left me with replica that looks good enough from here.

Tack welded the new stud to the bracket.

Bead blasted to provide a good base for paint.

Finished up. Yes, this should be plated but I don’t have a plating kit yet as much as I want one and this car isn’t the one that’s going to push me to make the leap. I’ll be just be happy that the front suspension isn’t trying to kill me.
