A timely perspective on one of the most important infrastructure challenges shaping the future of AI. In his new blog, Micron's Jeremy Werner argues that agentic AI is changing the infrastructure conversation. As AI systems move from answering questions to carrying out complex tasks, memory and storage become critical to performance, efficiency, and scale.

The result? HBM, DRAM, and NAND can no longer be treated as independent layers. They need to work as a coordinated hierarchy to keep AI systems reasoning, acting, and scaling efficiently.

Planning a family vacation used to mean juggling flights, hotels, schedules, activities and budgets across a dozen tabs. Today, an AI travel assistant can help turn all that information into a personalized itinerary in minutes. 🧳

But behind every quick travel recommendation is a remarkable amount of data processing. To build a custom itinerary, the might instantly process hundreds of thousands of data points in seconds, from massive travel guides to live flight APIs and weather datasets. It also cross-references all of this with your loyalty information and trip history pulled from persistent storage. Juggling this massive web of context simultaneously is why long-context AI can require over 100x more working memory than a simple, short interaction.

Memory and storage are the data foundation powering responsive AI experiences, and it means less time managing logistics and more time making memories together.

Where would you ask an AI travel assistant to take you?

What a great day celebrating the opening of the Micron Training Center in Boise. 🎉

We celebrated the launch of Boise's Cohort 6 in Micron's registered apprenticeship program, welcoming new apprentices and advancing an earn-and-learn model that creates meaningful pathways into semiconductor manufacturing careers.

We were honored to be joined by Idaho Governor Brad Little, Boise Mayor Lauren McLean, Director of the CHIPS Program Office Bill Frauenhofer, President of the College of Western Idaho Gordon Jones, and Micron team member, former apprentice and program speaker Bailey Guthrie. Thank you for helping us celebrate this milestone and the partnerships that are helping build Idaho's workforce of the future.

Today, Micron opened the Micron Training Center (MTC) in Boise, a state-of-the-art facility designed to strengthen America's semiconductor workforce and create new pathways into semiconductor career pathways. The approximately 60,000-square-foot center delivers hands-on technical training and apprenticeship opportunities while supporting the talent pipeline needed for the future of advanced manufacturing.

Developed in partnership with the College of Western Idaho, the MTC houses semiconductor process tools that replicate a fab environment and are the same equipment trainees will use on Micron's fab floor.

The MTC supports Micron’s broader commitment to invest more than $250 billion in U.S. semiconductor manufacturing, building the workforce needed to support high-volume production of advanced memory technologies. Those efforts are expected to create more than 90,000 American jobs. Learn more: https://bit.ly/4c7feOE

Every AI agent needs memory to remember what it's doing, what it's learned and what comes next.

Scale that to thousands of agents running simultaneously, and memory capacity can become a key factor in AI inference performance, especially for long-context workloads. That's why we're advancing solutions like our SOCAMM2 modules to create the memory foundation for the next generation of AI. Read more → https://bit.ly/46gB8eS
