Pioneer recently had the pleasure of sponsoring a field trip for Canyon Elementary School students at the newly restored wetlands of Gray’s Meadow in Kootenai County, Idaho. The students got hands-on experience learning about wetland ecology, contamination, and how clean habitats protect our local wildlife and bird populations. We had a fantastic day in the field, and we hope to spark a lifelong passion for conservation—and maybe even inspire a few future environmental engineers!

Superfund cleanup within an Anaconda Regional operable unit is "getting near the end" after 35 years and the remediation work isn't always visible. That includes a new sediment retention pond.

Pioneer is proud to be involved in the Diggings East Project. The site cleanup has begun, marking a major milestone in Butte’s ongoing Superfund recovery. Ultimately, crews will remove nearly 400,000 cubic yards of contaminated soil and transform the area into a future public green space along the Silver Bow Creek corridor.

This weekend, Tim Murphy is heading to the National Association of Abandoned Mine Land Programs Annual Conference in Park City, Utah. Tim joins MacKay at this event, and we're looking forward to networking with other industry professionals in the mining, reclamation, and environmental sectors.

Last week, Tim Murphy had the opportunity to attend the Rocky Mountain Mining & Reclamation Conference in Durango, Colorado. In addition to technical sessions and networking, Tim was able to attend a tour at the Rico-Argentine Mine Site, where Pioneer has been involved since 2009.

Our involvement with the new Expanded Constructed Wetlands Treatment System at the Site included analyzing the stability of a new soil repository, a new borrow area, settling basin/biotreatment cell embankments, multiple settling pond excavations, and multiple haul roads. Pioneer also helped with the foundation design for various buildings and water control structures, and was on site to assist with construction oversight and materials management.

In September, Pioneer, now part of MacKay, is attending college career fairs to connect with students interested in pursuing careers in infrastructure and environmental services. We’re looking forward to meeting attendees, having conversations and answering questions about our industry, and sharing more about our internship program.
