Last night, our Director of Construction, Dave Lucas, was honored as part of the Crain’s Grand Rapids Business 40 Under 40 Class of 2026.

In his honoree video, Dave talked about the mentor and the advice that shaped how he leads. It’s the same approach he brings to our projects and our team: show up, communicate clearly, and do the work right.

Weller Auto Parts Building Addition

There’s real satisfaction in watching a client’s operation grow into new space. Our team recently completed a 24,000-square-foot addition to Weller Auto’s logistics center in Wyoming, Michigan, adding warehouse and distribution space along with new offices and a breakroom. The building now has nine overhead grade doors and three new loading docks, and we finished it on a nine-month schedule while Weller Auto’s existing operation kept running.

October is Careers in Construction Month. Every foundation and loading dock on this project was built by skilled people who learned their craft one job at a time. Construction has room for people who like working with their hands and people who like to plan and solve problems, and both paths lead to work you can be proud of.

Meet Pat Simon: FCC Fleet Manager and Mechanic!

Pat keeps FCC's entire fleet (consisting of more than 150 trucks, trailers, and pieces of heavy equipment!) running, and he's usually doing it solo out of his shop or out at a job site.

Doing that work safely and efficiently, with no one looking over his shoulder, is what he takes the most pride in!

"From day one, Team FCC has been very welcoming, and always willing to help you along the way."

Today, Pat makes sure every truck, trailer, and piece of equipment is ready to roll before it ever hits a job site. What he loves most is the variety: no two days look the same, and he enjoys getting out to different sites to see FCC's projects coming together!

Off the clock, he's keeping up with his two young daughters, alongside his wife, or out mountain biking and gravel riding to catch a breather.

Some projects test a team more than others. The Stryker Sky High Hangar was one of them for our Steel Division this year.

The building's 200-foot clear span and 120-foot accordion-style hangar door made it far from a typical pre-engineered metal building. Then winter weather and unexpected utility delays meant reworking the crane plan and revising the er****on sequence altogether, with tighter site constraints and tougher picks along the way.

Through all of it, our team stayed focused and delivered a quality project on schedule. Take a look through the images at the hangar coming together, the finished result, and the crew who made it happen.

Tool-N-Die Inc. in Wayland, Michigan needed more room to keep growing, but their shop couldn't afford to slow down while we built it.

FCC Construction delivered a 9,000 SF manufacturing addition designed to tie directly into their existing operation, sequenced so production never missed a beat.

The project also added a new 10-ton overhead crane and a second parking lot to match the pace of their growth.

Meet Dave DeWitt: Pre-Engineered Superintendent and 28-year FCC veteran.

Dave leads multiple crews at one time, all on pre-engineered projects, and is a master problem-solver on the job site. No matter what a job throws at him, he finds a way through it and keeps things moving!

"Every company loves having the burgundy trucks on-site. They know we'll do whatever it takes to get the project done."

Today, Dave runs his crews from start to finish and calls FCC his work family. His path to FCC started on a soccer field: He was asked to coach a coworker's kid's team despite knowing next to nothing about the game, and that connection is what brought him to the team!

Off the job, you'll find him relaxing at home with his wife and their two dogs, or out working the yard on his tractor.
