I think that's what Bob was after. He was trying to promote universities to teach people-first leadership."

This week marks the one year anniversary of the release of the 10th anniversary revised and expanded edition of Everybody Matters: The Extraordinary Power of Caring for Your People Like Family by Raj Sisodia and our late Chairman & CEO, Bob Chapman.

Bob was extremely proud of the new edition, which added four more chapters and almost 100 pages to the original.

To continue to celebrate the year anniversary, this new features a couple of interviews Bob and Raj did upon the release of the original version of the book in 2015. Their words a decade ago are just as relevant today.

One year ago, the 10th anniversary revised and expanded edition of Everybody Matters: The Extraordinary Power of Caring for Your People Like Family was released.

Written by our late Chairman and CEO, Bob Chapman, and our good friend, Raj Sisodia, it tells the story of Bob and Barry-Wehmiller and laid out a new paradigm for leadership in business.

As you can hear from Bob in the video below, he was extremely proud of this new edition of the book. As he said:

"I think this captures the essence of what it means to be a leader, which we desperately need in the world, which I was never taught in my education. To redefine what leadership means. To move from this world of management -- the manipulation of people-- to the world of leadership -- which is the care of people. And I believe this lays the foundation for human prosperity in harmony with economic prosperity. It will create a level of joy, beauty, care in our society that we've never seen before."

We lost Bob a little more than five months later, but he worked tirelessly until the end to make sure this message was spread far and wide. We at Barry-Wehmiller continue to carry his legacy forward. On the one year anniversary of his book's release, share a copy with a friend who needs to know, as Bob would regularly sign: "There is hope!"

"As human beings, we have the desperate need, the deep-seated need to feel like we belong to something bigger than ourselves, to be contributors to something bigger.

"And that's more about culture. That's more, so, I mean, one of my favorite leaders, a gentleman by the name of Bob Chapman who ran a manufacturing company in the Midwest called Barry-Wehmiller. I mean, it's blue-collar manufacturing work.

"And yet, when you visit their factories, you see people who wake up every day with this amazing sense of purpose because they recognize that their job is not just to make machines. Their job is to serve the person to the left and serve the person to the right. And they feel each other there to support each other."

Many years ago, Simon Sinek befriended our late leader Bob Chapman and visited a Barry-Wehmiller company. Inspired by what he saw, Simon described it as “Truly Human,”which inspired the name of Bob's blog and gave our model a name, Truly Human Leadership.

Simon said of that visit: “I have this notion that we can live in a world where people go home at the end of the day fulfilled by their work… For the first time I have seen a company where this world exists. That is this company.”

He also pledged to carry the torch Bob had passed long after his time.
