I'm calling my latest project "Stone House on the Prairie." This rural Butler County home has been a long and challenging adventure, but that is what makes it rewarding. It began with a drawing on a scratch pad and years of life experience feeding into a vision. Over two years later, and enduring what feels like never-ending rain and mud, that vision is complete.
What made this project special? 1) Uniqueness - The thought that went into picking just the right stone and how to lay it. Incorporating treasured pieces into this modern home that looks anything but modern. Custom woodwork throughout every room provides beauty and just the right spaces. A GRAND family area where they can spend time together, including a 20-foot stone fireplace and reclaimed wood wall made from an old horse corral. 2)Functionality - The homeowner knew exactly what they needed. Larger space for the family to be together, bookshelves, because well, they have a LOT of books! Two laundry areas and a large mudroom, because when you live and work on a farm, you get dirty. The home is completely off-grid, relying on solar power for all its electricity. 3) The people - This project involved almost daily communication between me and the homeowner, working out the details to achieve the vision. Getting to know this family has been inspiring to me. They have an amazing work ethic, endless energy, and getting to know the kids has been so enjoyable.
Thank you for trusting me to fulfill the dream. It has been a pleasure, and Kim and I feel we have gained new friends.
