Casella round #2 - day one. 💥

It was a good day! We made a lot of progress. RNS Fabrication & Welding LLC

The only time-suck on this one was cutting the old apron off.

This half was connected completely differently from the first half. There were two layers of plate in most areas and three layers in others.

Feller buncher fix continues. 💥

I spent the day gouging out and prepping the drivers side crack. It’s @3/4 done.

I was informed that I have moderate to severe carpal tunnel syndrome in both hands shortly before beginning this job that is entirely hand work in awkward confined positions. I can confirm that diagnosis.

Anyway. Here’s some pics.

I foresee this getting a bit redundant but if anything interesting happens I’ll let y’all know.

Today was a down day.

I had a doctors appointment. I’m 46 years old so it’s better if I don’t blow those off.

My blood pressure was pretty high recently. That’s not good. Working it out.

I ran some errands before and after my appointment.

I’m working toward upgrading to a Hypertherm 85 sync plasma cutter.

The 85 is the largest the Big Blue will fully power. The Big Blue makes 20,000 watts of 240v 3 phase. That’s what will power the 85…. once I make an extension cord.

There is a lot of gouging to do on this machine and there are more machines to do.

The space is limited. Taking the top off the machine/s is the only thing that would vastly improve the access. That is not a viable option. I did ask in detail what is involved. It’s a lot.. and then you have to put it back on.

There is less manipulation gouging with a plasma cutter, there is no long electrode to manage, pull the trigger you’re gouging, release the trigger you’re not gouging. Plasma gouging also does not leave carbon deposits.

Long story short —> it’ll be easier and faster to plasma gouge in the limited space.

Here’s some pics.

Does anyone local have a junk plasma cutter hanging around you’d like to sell me cheap? It doesn’t even have to work.

I’m looking to purchase a new hypertherm 85 sync. They have a trade in program that will save me $$$ on the purchase price.

I had a couple cheap plasma cutters in the past. One went in the trash, the other one I gave away.

I’d like to pull the trigger on this today. I’ll be back up to the feller buncher fix tomorrow. There’s a lot of gouging to do. A plasma torch will fit in there better than my arc gouging setup.

__________

Side note —> I’ll be selling my Hypertherm 45xp with all of the cutting and gouging consumables I have for it. If you’re interested in buying that shoot me a message.

The feller buncher fix continues….

Getting this machine back to zero cracks is going to be some effort.

I did some welding of the big crack I found on the rear of the machine. It’s filled flush. I’ll do some finish work to get everything nice and smooth later.

I found three three more cracks. They’re trying to turn into one crack. The inner structure —> diagonal bulkhead plates, are preventing them from joining up.

This is a big fix. I’m going back to gouging again.

Here’s some pics. Details in the captions.

Recovery day!

I slept in this morning until it hurt more to stay in bed than it would to get up. The transfer station took more hours than I wanted —> 16 hour days. That’s a lot back to back.

I’m working out a plan to streamline next weekend to get the hours down.

I need to get back to the feller buncher repair first thing tomorrow.

I ran some errands… grabbed some more material for the transfer station… stopped at harbor freight for some tools… snagged some BBQ!

Home now. Here’s a pile of pics.

BBQ ALERT. 🚨
.for the locals.

My friend Dez has his food truck and smoker setup at 107 College Ave in Waterville.

Here’s how it works…. You give him money. He gives you smoked bbq ribs. Happiness ensues… the world is a better place.
