Progress.

The new rear tires are on. ✅

I did undercoat the drivers side before putting those tires back on. Note to self… torque those lug nuts.

I spent the rest of the day, up until now, cleaning the crane and removing the old decals. A lot of prep needs to happen for the new paint to stick.

I hope y’all had a nice long weekend. I spent most of it attending a wedding in Pennsylvania.

I’m back at it today tackling a couple more maintenance items before the weather takes a turn for the worse.

I ordered a complete decal kit for the crane. The decals are the only thing that’s prevented me from repainting it. Gloss white —> coming soon.

The TireGuy is on his way shortly to take care of mounting the new rear tires.

If it doesn’t rain I should be able to get the crane painted today. Progress pics later.

Some guard rail rehab 💥

The guard rails at a local transfer station need some updating. There’s a few location s that no longer use open top containers and a few damaged spots to fix.

I’ll be in and out over the next few weeks on days when they’re closed to the public. I got the first chunk done today.

One more thing off the to-do list! 💥

The Ranger needs a new battery. I’m reminded of that when I try to start the compressor and it just coughs a bit.

The compressor electric starter is wired through the boxes to the Ranger battery. I’ve owned the Ranger since 2012?? I’ve never replaced the battery.

All done now. Packing up to do actual work tomorrow.

A little tlc for the vise. 💕

I’m not a fan of the swivel hardware on most vises.

I replaced the rusty carriage bolts with plow bolts and ditched the handles for regular nuts.

It works better. Now you just need a 3/4” wrench if you want to swivel the vise.

Sure. Let’s give it a shot!

I was looking for a 3pt log splitter for the tractor. Marketplace listings were slim.

I found this 14t electric log splitter on Amazon. Roughly half the price of anything else I was looking at.

It works good. No engine to maintain and it’s pretty quiet. Move it around like a wheelbarrow.

We took down a lot of trees last year. Probably enough firewood for two winters once it’s all split.

I didn’t finish the undercoating. Somewhere along the way I got distracted.

I ended up sanding and painting the body. Semi-gloss black. I pulled all the lights… replaced a couple… and redid all the reflective striping.

I still need to do the floor, overhead rack, and the reels.

…and undercoat the whole truck. I am going to do some metal work to the body but I need to source some new hinges before I start pulling doors off. At minimum the fender sections on both sides are getting replaced.

I did successfully line up a tech to come out and set the valve lash. 👍🏻

The undercoating has begun!

This is going to take a little while. I’m getting everything I can reach from one spot at a time. I guess I’ll be taking the other rear wheels off.

The Harbor Freight paint sprayer + Wool Wax combo is great. I didn’t even clean the sprayer last time I used it weeks ago. I’m very happy with how well it works. 💥
