Last week, the PGC and Turner JV Team joined our project partners and team members at 89 Elm Street to celebrate a major milestone—and take part in a construction tradition that dates back centuries.

Together, we watched as the final beam was lifted into place, topping off The Bellwether, a 201-unit affordable housing development in Portland’s West Bayside.

Before the beam made its final trip up, PGC Co-President Clay Maker and Turner Executive AJ Millson shared some of the history and symbolism behind the topping-off tradition. The beam carried the traditional evergreen and American flag, along with a broom symbolizing a “clean sweep”—reaching this milestone without a safety incident. It’s a tradition with a particularly meaningful message: getting to the top matters, but getting everyone there safely matters even more.

Topping off is also a chance to recognize the people behind the progress—the teamwork, craftsmanship, and countless hours of work it takes to reach this point. We’re proud to celebrate alongside Turner Construction Company, Avesta Housing, Reveler Development, and the many trade partners and project team members helping move The Bellwether forward.

There’s still plenty of work ahead, but it was a great day to recognize how far this team has come.

An exciting early milestone at TAVATA — the first concrete has been poured!

Following early site work, including demolition, shoring, and excavation, N.S. Giles completed the project’s first concrete pour, placing approximately 140 yards for footings, piers, and the elevator shaft.

A lot of coordination goes into getting a project to this point, and we’re grateful to the valued trade partners helping move the early phases forward — EnviroVantage on demolition, H.B. Fleming on shoring and piles, Chase Excavating on site work, and N S Giles on concrete.

With the first pour complete, the team is moving ahead with foundations and site utilities — the next major steps for the 325-unit development on Washington Avenue in Portland’s East End.

We also appreciate Redfern Properties, Ryan Senatore Architecture, and the full project team for the collaboration behind this milestone. We’re looking forward to sharing more progress as work continues!

Lambert Woods North is a six-building, 72-unit affordable housing development well underway in Portland’s North Deering neighborhood.

With the project now about halfway through construction, work continues to move steadily across the site and several key milestones are coming into view. Framing on the final building is expected to wrap up by the end of the month, drywall is underway in the first buildings, and siding is set to begin this week — all signs of the continued momentum across the project.

As we reach this stage, it’s a great opportunity to recognize the many people helping keep that momentum going. We appreciate Preservation of Affordable Housing, Kaplan Thompson Architects, our trade partners, and the entire project team for the coordination, problem-solving, and hard work that go into moving a project like this forward every day.

There’s still plenty of work ahead, but we’re proud of the progress so far and grateful to be working alongside such a strong team as Lambert Woods North continues to take shape.

PGC’s recently completed Equality Commons project in downtown Portland was a complex urban infill that called for thoughtful problem-solving, creative design, and close collaboration. Great work by Aceto Landscape Architecture, Ryan Senatore, and the entire design team in making the most of a tight site and working through its many constraints.

📈 Great progress continues on Hancock Lumber Company's new manufacturing facility in Oxford!

It’s been exciting to see this project take shape over the past month, from the manufacturing floor slabs and office framing to continued sitework and paving.

We always enjoy seeing Hancock Lumber’s aerial progress updates. They give us a chance to step back and recognize the safe, efficient progress made possible by close coordination with the Hancock Lumber team, our field team, and talented trade partners.

One neighborhood. Four projects. 486 Homes. Countless partnerships.

PGC is proud to be part of the ongoing transformation of Portland’s West Bayside neighborhood. Every project starts with a vision, but it takes dedicated people working together to move that vision from concept to completion.

This aerial photo captures four PGC projects across West Bayside at different stages of construction—from completed buildings to active job sites and projects just getting underway—each adding to the neighborhood’s growing mix of housing, businesses, and community resources.

Building in an active neighborhood is a shared effort, and we'd like to thank our clients, design teams, trade partners, and team members for the trust, collaboration, and craftsmanship behind this work. We also appreciate the patience and support of our West Bayside neighbors throughout every stage of construction.

The future of West Bayside is taking shape, and PGC is excited to be part of what's ahead!

A long-awaited milestone became a reality last week as PGC celebrated the groundbreaking of the Martel Phase 1 project alongside Lewiston Housing, the City of Lewiston, project partners, and community members.

The project will transform the former Martel School site into 42 quality, affordable senior homes, marking Lewiston’s first new affordable senior housing development in more than two decades and kicking off the first of three planned phases.

The ceremony marked an exciting milestone, and now it’s time to build! PGC is ready to carry that momentum forward and share the progress as this important project takes shape.

Projects like this are about more than building structures—they’re about building stronger communities.

PGC is proud to be managing construction for Youth and Family Outreach expansion, bringing together affordable housing and expanded child care to support Portland families. We appreciate the opportunity to work with Youth & Family Outreach and to partner once again with Developers Collaborative on a project that will have a lasting impact on Maine communities.

Thanks to Mainebiz for highlighting this important project.

Youth and Family Outreach center has broken ground on a $28 million site designed to address two persistent challenges for lower-income families: child care and housing.
