Did you know stainless steel can still corrode? đź‘€

Stainless steel gets its corrosion resistance from a thin, chromium-rich oxide layer—but manufacturing can leave free iron and other contaminants on the surface.

That’s where passivation comes in. The process removes surface contaminants and helps strengthen the protective chromium oxide layer, improving corrosion resistance without changing the part’s dimensions.

But nitric acid, citric acid, and electropolishing don't all work the same way.

So which passivation method is right for your stainless steel parts?

We break down the differences in our latest article. 👇

A knurled fastener is only as good as the inspection behind it.

This custom cold-headed fastener was manufactured from SAE 1018 steel with a diamond-knurled section and tight dimensional requirements on the knurled diameter, head, and body.

But how do you make sure those dimensions stay consistent throughout production? Dedicated gauges and in-process inspection.

Watch the video to see how TFG verifies critical dimensions and maintains part-to-part consistency at production volume.

NO PRESSURE đź’¨ Custom Industrial Gas Springs | The Federal Group USA

It's the part nobody thinks about — until it stops holding.

Gas springs handle the lifting, lowering, positioning, and counterbalancing on just about every piece of equipment with a lid, a panel, or a guard. We supply them custom for OEM manufacturers: standard or lockable, spec'd to your force rating, stroke, extended length, rod and tube diameter, and end fittings. Eyelets, ball sockets, clevis mounts, specialty connectors — your call.

Running today in industrial and ag equipment, construction machinery, medical devices, material handling, marine, packaging, food processing, transportation, and commercial furniture.

Prototype through production. ISO 9001:2015. Private labeling available. And a U.S.-based team that actually picks up.

5-axis sounds better… but do you actually need it?

Choosing between 3-axis, 4-axis, and 5-axis CNC machining can have a major impact on setup time, part complexity, tolerances, machining efficiency, and cost.

The most advanced machine isn’t always the best choice. It’s about matching the machining process to the geometry and production requirements of your part.

Want to know which CNC process is right for your application? Read the full blog below. ⬇️

When you're making millions of parts, every second matters.

That's why cold heading is the process of choice for high-volume fastener production.

Instead of machining material away, steel is formed under tremendous pressure, creating stronger parts, reducing scrap, and producing exceptional consistency from the first piece to the millionth.

If your fastener is being machined, it might be worth asking if it should be cold headed instead.

Send us your print—we'll help you determine the most efficient manufacturing process.

5 axis CNC machining in action. ⚙️

Five axes of movement. One setup. Complex geometry, tight tolerances, and a whole lot of precision, all happening at once.

This is what advanced CNC machining looks like.

Casting pours it. Machining cuts it. Forging reshapes it.

Closed die forging forces heated metal into precision dies so the grain flow follows the part- which is why forged gears, shafts, valve bodies, and implants outlast cast or machined equivalents under fatigue and impact.

Our complete guide covers the process, materials, design considerations, and how it stacks up against open die forging.
