The indoor air quality of your home can be up to 100 times worse than the quality of the air outside.
Wait, what?
That's right, dust, allergens, pollutants and mildew can all be floating around in your safe space, causing negative health effects to you and your family, such as:
-Headaches
-Respiratory problems
-Increased allergy symptoms
-Poor overall health
-And more
Of course, you can improve this by cleaning your house consistently, but it doesn't end there.
In order to achieve good air quality within your house, it's important to have an efficient and well maintained HVAC system.
So go change that air filter, and don’t forget to have your HVAC system serviced twice per year!
Call us for a quote and you’ll see our commitment to quality is like a breath of fresh air :)

Can’t live without your air conditioner?

You’re not the first one to say that.

Air conditioning actually dates back to prehistory. Ancient Egyptian buildings were known to use many passive air conditioning techniques to keep them cool in the desert heat.

But what is passive air conditioning?

First, let's establish what air conditioning actually is: it's the process of removing heat and controlling the humidity of a space to maintain a more comfortable interior environment.

Passive air conditioning comes in many forms:

-Cross ventilation: allowing air to pass freely through the building by means of two openings on either side of the house
-Stack ventilation: allowing the rising hot air to escape the building through openings in the roof
-Night flushing: keeping the air in a building sealed throughout the day, then allowing new cooler air to flow during the night
-Radiative cooling: designing surfaces of a building such as the roof to better radiate heat outwards, typically during the night
-And many more!

Passive air conditioning involves many feats of physics and engineering, and so does the modern “active” air conditioning that we use today.

So the next time you come inside to a cool room after the summer heat, take a moment to think about the ancient Egyptians and their ingenious ideas :)

Ever notice how after a couple of years in the Oval Office, presidents start to look a bit haggard?
Well, not Mr. Herbert Hoover…

Hoover was the first president to enjoy the cooling powers of Air Conditioning:

He spent $30,000 USD on the system just months after the Stock Market Crash of 1929, and the beginning of the Great Depression…

Suppose he wasn’t yet asking what HE could do for his country ;)

Let us know – would you have spent that much money, at that time, if you were president?

If you love your air conditioner, and we all do – then there is one man you should thank in particular.

Willis H. Carrier built the first modern electrical air conditioning unit in 1901.
But you may be surprised why.

At the time, Sackett-Wilhelms Lithographing & Publishing Company had a serious issue on their hands. Temperature fluctuations in the printing rooms were causing their paper to expand and contract, and their drying ink to smudge.

Mr. Carrier installed his AC unit in 1902 to combat these problems, controlling the temperature and humidity of the building – et voila, their issues were solved!

More people started to catch on to the fact that these systems were pretty nifty, and, by 1914, domestic AC units began to really take off!

The rest is history :)

Now that we have smart fridges, smart toasters, and all sorts of other whacky digital gadgets at our disposal – it begs the question:
Do I need a programmable thermostat in my house?
That all depends on your budget, but it can definitely help you save big in the long run.
Some of the benefits of a programmable thermostat include:
-Longer lifespan of your HVAC system
-Higher energy efficiency
-Lower energy bills
To top it all off, having a programmable thermostat allows you to take complete control of your comfort. You can set different temperature settings for different times of the day, even going so far as to set it to a more neutral temperature during the day, so it's not using as much energy while no one is home!
Makes sense to me :)

Most of us have no idea how our HVAC systems operate.

And that's fine – an HVAC system is a pretty complicated feat of engineering and physics.
But here’s something you should know if you want to save some money on repairs.
Let me introduce you to the condensate drain line.

When this little puppy gets clogged, the system will freeze up – causing a failure in operation.
All you have to do is detach the line and pour in a cup of bleach or vinegar. This quick fix can help save you lots of money down the line!

How often you will need to clean the line will depend on how well you maintain the rest of the system, as well as the efficiency of your air filters, and the overall dustiness of the air in your house.

Keep those tubes clean people!
