The McElhattan Challenge Board was proud to celebrate an exciting milestone this past Saturday at the ribbon-cutting ceremony for Weird Fish Records’ newly renovated space!

Owned by McElhattan Challenge grant recipient Richie Dickson, Weird Fish Records demonstrates the difference that meaningful support and investment can make for a growing local business. The incredible new space offers a one-of-a-kind destination where community members can explore records, books, and more.

Joining the celebration were Jocelyn Horner Kelly and Gigi Vinod from the McElhattan Foundation, McElhattan Challenge Advisory Board Chair Warren Thomas, and Board Members Matt Beith and Bob Moore.

We’re thrilled to see Richie’s vision take shape and Weird Fish Records begin this exciting new chapter in a space designed for music lovers, book enthusiasts, and the entire community!

That’s a wrap on our MakerMinds Finance Session! 💰🎉

A huge thank-you to our finance expert, Jen Hughes! Although we didn’t capture any photos, Jen brought a wealth of knowledge—and plenty of fun—to our Makers.

Next, we visited the Olive Vault, where Kipp and Candi shared their journey to business ownership, taught the Makers how to make gelato and, most importantly, let them eat it! 🍨

Thank you to Jen, Kipp, and Candi for generously sharing your time, experience, and wisdom with our young entrepreneurs.

This was our final educational week of the summer! We’ll celebrate with a Wrap-Up Party in a couple of weeks before everyone heads back to school—but the fun isn’t over yet!

Another amazing MakerMinds session is in the books! 🚀

This week was all about confidence, customer service, and teamwork!

While we don't have photos from our session with Mr. Slider, our Makers walked away with valuable lessons in public speaking, authenticity, and believing in themselves. A huge thank you to Mr. Slider for sharing his time, experience, and encouragement!

Next, we headed to Bella Cucina for a behind-the-scenes look at what exceptional customer service looks like. Thank you to Ava and Tim for teaching our Makers about teamwork, positivity, and creating a great customer experience.

The Makers then put their skills to the test by working in teams to complete a customer service challenge. It wasn't easy—but that's how learning happens! We wrapped up with a delicious lunch, and to make the day even better, several Bella Cucina patrons complimented our Makers on their manners and professionalism.

We're so proud of this group and can't wait to see them continue growing! 💙
