Did you know you have options when it comes to adding a spa or tanning ledge to your fiberglass pool? 🏊‍♂️💦

Some fiberglass pool models come with a built-in spa, while others let you add a separate spa or tanning ledge alongside the pool, like we did with this project.

The best part? You can still create a backyard that feels custom, even when starting with a manufactured fiberglass pool shell. From an attached spa or a relaxing tanning ledge to patios, retaining walls, lighting, and water features, there are plenty of ways to make the whole space your own.

At K&D Pools, we help homeowners find the right fiberglass pool design for their yard, lifestyle, and budget.

There is just something about a crisp, glacier-white pool shell that makes the water look unreal. 🧊✨

We just wrapped up this stunning fiberglass build, and the customer chose the Arctic finish. Combined with clean sunshine and crystal-clear water, the final look is completely breathtaking. It gives the entire backyard a resort-style, ultra-clean aesthetic that catches your eye the second you step outside.

Whether you're going for a vibrant turquoise look or a bright, modern glacier finish like this one, choosing the right shell color completely transforms the vibe of your outdoor living space.

At the end of the day, this is why we love building pools. ❤️🏊‍♂️

It’s not the excavation, the equipment, or even seeing the finished project come together. It’s the look on a customer’s face when they finally get to see their new pool finished — especially when the whole family is there.

We know we’re not just building a pool. We’re building a place where families will spend summer days, have backyard cookouts, celebrate birthdays, have friends over, and make memories that can last a lifetime.

That’s what makes all the hard work worth it.

We’re proud to be a local, family-owned and operated pool builder serving Fredericksburg, Stafford, and the surrounding areas. And we can’t wait to see the smiles from the families we build for next.

Thinking about making your backyard the place everyone wants to be next summer? Now is a great time to start planning for 2027. 💧

Yep, we’re showing this pool off again. 😂 And no, we’re not sorry!

Some projects are just too good not to share more than once! One of the biggest advantages of a custom gunite pool is that you’re not limited to choosing from a set of pre-made pool shells. You have the freedom to customize the shape, size, depth, steps, benches, spas, and so much more to fit your backyard and your vision.

Have a sloped yard? Want a raised spa, custom water features, or a unique layout? Gunite gives us the flexibility to design around your property instead of trying to make your property fit the pool.

At K&D Pools, we love bringing these custom projects to life. Every backyard is different, and that’s exactly what makes this work fun!

We learned the chemistry so you don’t have to. 😂🧪🏊‍♂️

One of the hardest parts of getting into the pool industry wasn’t the construction. It was learning how to properly balance pool water, understand the chemistry, and make sure that water is safe and ready to swim in.

The construction side was a different story.

Before we started building pools, we were already a Class A contractor handling large construction projects. Excavation, concrete, grading, elevations, drainage, retaining walls, and managing complicated jobs were already part of what we did.

Pool chemistry? That was a whole new world. 😂

Over the years, we’ve learned it, mastered it, and now we can help our customers understand it too. Because building a great pool is only part of the job. You also need to know how to take care of the water once it’s full.

That’s the benefit of working with a local, family-owned company with years of construction experience — we’re always learning and passing that knowledge along to our customers.

Here’s the truth about fiberglass pools: they’re not the best choice for every project, but they have some pretty clear advantages.

Compared to vinyl, fiberglass gives you a permanent, durable shell with a smooth, non-porous finish. You also don’t have to worry about replacing a vinyl liner down the road.

Compared to concrete/gunite, one of the biggest advantages is installation time. The pool shell is manufactured ahead of time and arrives ready to be set, so there are fewer construction phases and the pool can typically be completed much faster.

But there are tradeoffs.

Fiberglass can cost more upfront than a basic vinyl pool, and because you’re choosing from manufactured shell shapes and sizes, it isn’t nearly as customizable as a gunite pool. With gunite, you have much more freedom when it comes to the exact shape, size, depth, and layout.

So when someone asks us, “What are the advantages of fiberglass?” the honest answer is: it depends on what you want out of your pool.

That’s why we build both fiberglass and gunite pools. We’d rather help you understand the differences and choose what makes the most sense for your property and your goals.

If you ask anyone who has built with us, the first thing they'll likely say is that we actually answer the phone—and we solve issues fast.

Let’s be honest: when you’re dealing with large construction projects, things are bound to come up. It's the nature of the beast. Change orders happen, unexpected site conditions pop up, or questions arise down the road. What matters isn't whether something comes up, but how it's handled. We make it a priority to address any adjustments or issues quickly and transparently.

Because we are a local, family-owned and operated company right here in Fredericksburg and Stafford, you’ll never get stuck talking to a corporate automated phone tree or a distant call center leaving voicemails into the void. Whether you're a brand new lead, currently in the middle of a build, or a past customer with a warranty question years later—we pick up the phone and we take care of you.

Can I use my automatic pool cover as a winter cover?

Short answer: We definitely don't recommend it! ❄️

While automatic covers are absolute game-changers for daily convenience, safety, and keeping debris out during the swimming season, they aren't built to handle the heavy weight of winter snow and ice. Leaving an autocover closed all winter can stretch, tear, or damage the fabric and mechanisms—and that kind of weather damage often isn't covered by the manufacturer's warranty.

When winter rolls around, it’s always best to protect your investment with a proper, heavy-duty safety winter cover designed to take on the snow load and keep your pool secure until spring.

Have questions about winterizing your setup or choosing the right features for your pool? Our local team at K&D Pools is always here to help guide you through the process right here in Fredericksburg and the surrounding areas.

Where do we see K&D Pools in 5 years?

Hopefully a little bigger, maybe expanding a little farther north and a little farther south. But one thing we don’t plan on changing is who we are.

We’re family owned and operated, and we’re here for the long run. There are pool companies that operate through franchises or satellite locations that can change ownership, move around, or simply come and go.

That’s not how we want to build our company.

If we grow, it will be because we’re ready to take on more of our surrounding area without sacrificing the quality and personal service that got us here in the first place.

We’re in no rush to be the biggest pool builder. We’d rather be known for building great pools, taking care of our customers, and doing things the right way.

One project at a time. 🏊‍♂️

09/11/2026

The rendering is cool, but it’s not the most important part of the design process.

The finished pool will almost always look a little different than the rendering. Landscaping changes, materials look different in person, lighting changes, and there are always details that a rendering can’t perfectly capture.

For us, the rendering is a tool to help you understand the project before we build it.

We spend time during the design phase going over the layout, elevations, construction, and how everything is going to come together. Our goal isn’t to impress you with an over-the-top picture. It’s to make sure you understand what we’re building and why.

Because the better you understand the project before construction starts, the better the final result will be.
