Last week we completed a tower foundation in Lewisberry, PA.

The site was on top of a mountain, and based on the geotechnical information we expected a significant amount of rock. The foundation was 78" in diameter and 19.5' deep, with approximately 11.5' of rock. Fortunately, the rock cut exceptionally well.

What we anticipated would take several days to drill was completed in a single day. We started the project Monday and originally planned to pour concrete Friday. Instead, the foundation was ready to pour by Wednesday. The only reason it wasn't poured Tuesday was because we couldn't move the inspection schedule up that quickly.

A great job by the crew staying efficient and keeping the project moving. Sometimes everything just comes together the way you hope it will.

Last week we drilled and poured a tower foundation in King George, VA.

We knew going into it that the bottom of the shaft would have soft sand with potential groundwater, so slurry was utilized to maintain hole stability throughout drilling operations.

Everything went smoothly and efficiently from start to finish. Another solid job by the crew getting it completed safely and successfully.

Last week we drilled and poured a tower foundation at the Hope Creek nuclear power plant in southern New Jersey.

This was an 84" diameter slurry shaft drilled to 44.5' deep. With the higher groundwater, soft loose material, and potential tidewater influence, conditions required a little extra attention throughout the process.

The crew did a great job staying ahead of it, keeping the hole stable, and executing the pour successfully.

Pretty unique backdrop for this one too.

Last minute emergency squeeze-in in Ashburn, VA.

The contractor got into a bind after hitting rock they couldn’t get through. Access was tight, options were limited, and they weren’t sure how they were going to finish it.

One of our customers recommended us and told them we had the right rig for the tight access and rock conditions. Schedules lined up just enough for us to work it in and get it handled.

Tight access, rock drilling, and a short turnaround. The crew did a great job making it happen.

Wrapped up another tower foundation last week.

96" diameter, 19' deep, with about 8' of rock at the bottom. We weren’t sure how the rock was going to cut, but it ended up going as smoothly as it could.

Almost like the rock heard the plan and decided to cooperate for once.

Another solid job by the crew.

Wrapped up substation work in Woodford, VA.

Drilled, formed, and poured 220 caissons as part of a massive project down there. A lot of drilling, repetition, and long days.

The crew put their heads down and busted through it. Stayed consistent, kept things moving, and got the job done.

Wrapped up a job close to home this week. It was about 20 minutes from the shop and even closer for a few of our guys.

Everything moved along pretty well from drilling through setting the cage. We did get pushed a day on the pour with concrete, which threw the schedule off a bit, but the crew stayed ready and adjusted.

Came back the next day and got it poured without any issues.

Nothing flashy on this one, just solid work, adapting when needed, and getting it done.

Last week, our crew was in Mechanicsburg, PA drilling a foundation for a billboard just off Route 11.

Access alone made this site a challenge. The rig had to work over a guardrail and partially down an embankment, with multiple overhead lines limiting movement and requiring constant awareness.

Subsurface conditions added another layer. Rock was encountered near the top of the hole and continued all the way to the bottom, requiring full-depth drilling through hard material.

Despite the access constraints and drilling conditions, the crew kept things moving and completed the work on schedule. The foundation was drilled and the base was successfully poured.

Another example of adapting to site conditions and getting it done safely.
