Some interesting thoughts on design. For me home design is pretty simple -a home is a tool. Not unlike a hammer or a backhoe. First and foremost, a tool needs to work. Our "marketing guy" Jamie Bate cringes when I say this, but I like boring floor plans. A "boring" floor plan is one where anyone can walk into the house and instantly know where to take off their shoes, where to find the restroom, where to fetch a cold beer out of the fridge.
Whereas the floorpan is a mostly two-dimensional experience, a home is a three-dimensional reality (and experiencing it adds the fourth dimension of time). Therein is the "fun stuff" -tweaking that "boring" floor plan to match up interior uses with views, creating interior and exterior spaces that you actually want to spend time in.
