I’m posting something a little different today. Something a little more raw and vulnerable.
Most of what you see from Tunstall Properties is the finished product.
You see the home that makes it into the Parade of Homes. You see the beautiful Airbnb photos. You see the newest build, the remodel reveal, the freshly painted walls, the staged rooms and the keys being handed over.
What you don’t see nearly as often is this part.
Stan and I both work full-time jobs. And when most people are getting off work for the day, a lot of times, we are just starting our second one.
Today was a perfect example.
I spent the day counseling clients, and when I got off work, I met Stan at one of our rental properties where a tenant had just moved out. The house was left needing quite a bit of work, and in the rental world, every day a house sits empty matters.
So we went to work.
We cleaned. We repaired. We made lists. We figured out what needed to be replaced and what could be saved. We did all of the unglamorous things that will never make it into a pretty Facebook post.
And around 9:00 tonight, we finally looked at each other and decided it was probably time to eat something and head home.
The truth is, this is what a lot of our nights look like.
While other people may be catching up on their favorite show, relaxing on the couch, or laying out clothes for tomorrow, you can usually find us at a job site, a rental, an Airbnb, or sitting at the kitchen table talking through the next project.
And I don’t say that for sympathy.
I say it because sometimes the finished product makes success look a lot prettier than it actually is.
There are a lot of tired nights behind the pretty pictures.
A lot of sacrifices behind the progress.
A lot of “we’ll figure it out” conversations.
A lot of working when we would rather go home.
A lot of choosing the future we want over the comfort we could have right now.
But there’s also something pretty special about looking across a dusty room at the person you love and realizing…
We are building this together.
And not just houses.
We’re trying to build something stronger than the foundations we pour.
We’re building a life.
We’re building a business.
We’re building something our children can be proud of and, hopefully, something that will still be taking care of our children and grandchildren long after we’re gone.
So tonight there’s no professional photo. No perfectly staged house. No finished reveal.
Just two tired people, in work clothes, at the end of another really long day.
And maybe this is the part of Tunstall Properties I’m most proud of. ❤️
The finished homes are beautiful. But what we’re building between the before and after means even more.
