Three words that can ruin a long weekend:

Some assembly required. 🛠️

On a furniture box, that usually means 47 mystery screws, a tiny Allen wrench, and at least one heated disagreement with the instructions.

On a custom metal project, the stakes are a little higher. Fabricating the stairs, handrails, HVAC components, countertops, or equipment is only part of the job. Someone still has to deliver it, position it, secure it, and make sure it works with the actual site.

If fabrication materials had back-to-school superlatives, carbon fiber would win "Most Likely to Do More While Weighing Less."

Its high strength-to-weight ratio is one reason carbon fiber has moved well beyond advanced military applications. Today, it's also used for manufacturing, medical, and recreational components where reducing weight without giving up strength matters.

Of course, choosing the material is only the first assignment. It still has to be formed into a part that meets the actual design and tolerance requirements.

At Macy Industries, we make our own carbon fiber molds, giving us control over the design, testing, and finished product. We're also one of the few companies doing this work in New Hampshire.

"Could we just use Command Strips?"

No.

These custom welded brackets are built for real loads and real mounting conditions, where the hole placement, the welds, and the bend all have to be right for the part to hold what it's supposed to. It takes a bit more engineering than a sticky strip and a hopeful press.

Here's something only a fabricator thinks about: a park bench and a bus-stop bench aren't built to the same backrest angle.

A few degrees is the whole difference between "stay a while" and "please don't."

➜ A 100 to 110 degree lean makes a bench for lingering, such as the park kind, where someone settles in with a coffee and loses a perfectly good hour.
➜ A more upright 95 to 100 degrees makes a bench for waiting, such as the transit kind, which is comfortable enough to sit but not so comfortable you snooze through three buses.

That late-day sunbeam cutting across the shop floor, the one full of floating sparkle? That’s not ambiance. That’s airborne particulate matter, and it may be a sign your dust collection system is letting more into the air than it should.

There are custom parts that explain themselves immediately.

Some projects come out looking like railings, some like ductwork, and some like awnings. Then there are parts like these that come out looking like a very durable set of drying racks. (They're not.)

These are custom welded assemblies, built as a production run. The challenge with a batch like this isn't fabricating a single unit, it's fabricating all of them to the same spec, again and again, without any one drifting off from the rest.

That kind of consistency across a full run is harder than it sounds, and it's a big part of what we do here.
